AT&T Cellular for dial-up without paying data fees?

Can I bluetooth to my phone and have the modem dial-up without paying data fees? Or is the speed not going to be worth it? Is the $20 for media-net unlimited usage?

    Go ahead and flame away...

The $20/mo puts you on Cingular WAP servers. Slow as f00k. The $40/mo puts you on the isp.cingular (or whatever they changed the names too now that it is ATT again.)

And just so you know, dont call up ATT for help, as tethering is a blatent violation of the TSA.

And if you mean have the phone connect via GPRS/3G whatever, then yes you will be charged. If you mean having it dial a phone number like dial-up, then you will just be charged regular minutes.

3G is only $20? I thought it was a lot more than that? Or do you have some special discount?

ditto. I have the 8525 (3G pda phone) and get some wheres in the 650 range depending on where I am. I have the $20 medianet plan which is NOT allowed with my phone, I'm suppose to have the PDA plan. I also tether which is against their policy. If you have a PDA phone and are thinking about doing this I would suggest doing what I did and NOT go to the Cingular store but to a kiosk some where that is not owned by att/cinular and having it added to your account and not showing them the phone.

BTW. this has been discussed several times.

This is what I'm wanting to do. Since everyone has free nights and weekends and speed is not a biggie. Why not use their AT&T (my ISP) dial up from my cell connected via bluetooth to the puter? I just didn't want a huge data bill.

    Thx guys

I have the Media Max 200 plan.

I have a Samsung Blackjack and just use the regular Wap settings.

I live in San Diego, CA. We get the fastest services here relatively soon after they come out because Quallcomm is based here, and it's good competition.

Look up info on Howardforums. There are people on there that have gotten up to 2.5mbps off the ATT 3G network.

    Tethering

Bluetooth is not the same as tethering. You can only get about 115kbps that way. Tethering is wired and that is how the higher speeds are attained.
