External antenna on a GPS reciever?

I intend to integrate all the carputer components into one unit, including GPS. I was told by another mp3car user that the GPS unit shouldn't go inside the carputer because the metal chassis will disrupt the GPS signal coming and going.

Because of that, I want to hack the GPS receiver to use with an external (outside of the vehicle) antenna. Is there any GPS receiver that allows for external antenna connections, or will I have to hack the GPS reciever? I ask because this antenna boasts GPS connectivity:

Remaining tasks to facilitate vanputer installation codename "Enterprise":
    - Edit skin to liking.
    - Get compatible phone for mobilephone.net.
    - Facilitate HVAC control.

Many GPS receivers have external antenna ports.
