Using 595U as an GPS unit!

I have just found that I can use this unit for not only high speed internet, but also a GPS reciever. In order to use it though, I have to log on to the connection manager and hit the button that says "Start NMEA", if I dont push it, I can use iGuidance. Is there a way to start NMEA without having to start Sprint Connection Manager?

I'm pretty sure the GPS signal only works if there is a data connection present. I've got this card, but I'm being sent the Compass 597 today, and should be here in a few hours.

I'm also pretty sure it updates only every 5 minutes, but I've not really messed with that part much. There is a label that says MPH, so, I would assume it updates more frequently. I had a hard time getting IG to recognize the port and receive any of the NMEA data though, so I stopped messing with it and just use my BU-353 for now.

Mine updated right away, problem is it made my data connection slow. When i had GPS on, it said 23 mbps and felt slow, but with it off, it was 43 mbps and was similar to DSL. Ive decided to buy a seperate GPS unit, i think its the BU-353 (same as you). I cant have the BU-353 near the PC though or i can not get lock, so i bought a extension cable and ran the unit to the back of the car. Now works fine. Also, it was so hard to get iGuidance to work (same as you), was basically pray and hope it works type issue.

I set up the BU-353 first, and split the ports and had that working with IG before I tried messing with the 595U.

Once I noticed the 595U had NMEA support, I tried to get it to connect with IG, but it didn't really work right, so I just gave up and went back to the BU-353 since that's what that is dedicated for.

I've got my GPS puck on the corner of my dash, with an extension to the lappy under the seat, and I have no issues with it.
