I've been using my google voice # as my main number for about a month or so now and it works great for me.

I don't think users have invites to give out, or at least I don't. Sorry. Just make sure to sign-up via the "Get an Invite" link.

Yeah, I requested an invite using the link on the page, and got one in a few days. I've been using it for about a month too, pretty nice service.

Apparently this is not available everywhere yet. Which is probably why they have the Invite link. You are responded to once it's available in your area. Seems like a cool service unfortunately I can't take advantage of it because I only use one phone...my mobile phone. But if you have to deal with more than one telephone number in your life then seems like the way to go.
