Thats your problem....sounds like you have a very old bluetooth dongle. Since we're now at bluetooth 3.0 and version 1.1 and higher supported HFP I would start by replacing that. Bluetooth 2.0 and 2.1 dongles go for about $1.25 shipped on ebay.

It appears that my dongle is Bluetooth 2.0, but it doesn't support HFP. There's a lot of cheap dongles available, but most of them don't list what profiles are supported. Do you know of any specific models that do?

bumping for an answer... which BT dongle do you recommend?

I think i have a similar problem but not sure if its the same. W/ the BT dongle that i have now, my iphone can connect perfectly fine, works perfectly playing audio out to my speakers whether it be using itunes, streaming audio, etc.

The problem is, when I use the phone feature it automatically routes back to teh phopne so all audio sources is coming from there...

Anything that supports bluetooth 2.0 or higher supports HFP.
