Got a new theory: Following up from the guy that says a phone that has been disabled because the service is unpaid, and reading on sprintusers for a bit, I think that you can get a cellphone, add it to your plan, then report it lost and it will be in that activated but unusable state where you can still tether it. If you can't tether then you just need to switch some code specifying what user is signing onto data services in your phone to an active phone, and you will have a sprint cellphone that can tether on data without being on any plan.

Just a theory. Mods, feel free to delete if this sounds too borderline illegal... (edited for typo)

QUESTION, carputer and sprint pc card

ok so i purchased the sprint pcmcia card for my lappy and it works awesome, i used to get 115kbits off of my celly with the data cable but the initial lag sucked so it was alright for downloads but the web worked great in the beginning but then dwindles, and i was never charged per kb, i paid 5$ month for unlinited vision.
    .
    .
anyways, i want to use my pc card for my carputer and lappy but i dont have a pci slot in the carputer so can not install a pc card adapter...my question is:

CAN I BUY A USB TO PC CARD ADAPTER...not a usb hub but soemthing similar to the pci adapter but using usb????????
    any other ideas??

You could get a cheap laptop set up and use it as a router. Wouldn't have to be anything special, a 166 mhz compy with 4 gb of space and 64 mb of ram would do. Make it run windows 2000 and do internet connection sharing.

    But... that is overkill

BTW your question is off topic, this thread is specifically about connecting to and using the internet, not hardware compatability issues

If you can't find an adapter, look for an old USB Orinoco Silver 802.11 network adapter. Carefully open the case and remove the Orinoco PCCard and replace with whatever you want. Voila! PCCard USB adapter. Probably dirt cheap on eBay now, I bought mine two years ago for about $35. (Great wireless card too I might add except it was only 802.11b)

I have sprint and have been using my Sanyo 5300 and previously a sanyo 8100 as a modem for the last 3 years on my vision plan.
Sprint does not care if you use a regular vision phone as a modem. They do care about the Power Vision phones (EVDO), which is the sole reason I have not upgraded.

For this to work and to not be charged data minutes, you have to have a vision plan, I pay $15 a month, but they do not offer my plan anymore. For power vision you have to buy the top vision plan which i think is $25 extra a month.

    3. Press zero
    4. Type in 040793
    5. Go down to Toggle NAI and turn it off

You should now be able to log on no problems.
Holy sweet jesus, this worked like a charm I know this was posted a while back, so I hope sprint didnt get wise to this phone-hackery and start charging me. If anyone else has tried this, some feedback would be much appreciated.
