    Orinoco USB Roaming Networks

Is it just me or do the drivers for the Orinoco USB not allow it to roam between networks? I have it setup to connect to my home network (no broadcast, WEP) just fine and wanted to hook into one at work that broadcasts it's SSID, without setting up a new profile and browsing for the network I couldn't connect.

Am I missing something? With my PC Card on XP it would detect and latch on to a network automatically.

NB - In the car I'm using Win2k

    Chris.

I am interested in knowing this aswell. I am close to purchasing an Orinoco USB client (gold/silver) and would like to know weather it roams or not. If not which unit will roam. I have seen the Linksys USB B/G Access point, that is my alternitive. Do thos drivers roam.

    Thanks for answers

The help for the client manager says that setting the network name to "ANY" will cause it to roam, this doesn't seem to work for me though. Woeks fine with my Orinoco Silver on a laptop under XP, not the same with USB / Win2k though. On XP I am using the XP drivers, maybe that's the difference here.

if you are using 2K, set the SSID to ANY using the client manager.

for anyone who is reading this and has XP, I grabbed this from the netstumbler forums:

an applet appears called wireless network conection, at the bottom is a button that says advanced. click this button.

A new box appears called wireless connection properties, it should have three tabs. click the middle tab "wireless networks"

goto the bottom where it says preffered networks.

    click "add"

A box opens up with a space to insert your SSID, type in "any" and untick the box to enable wep (you wont need it for stumbling)

    click ok.

dont know if this is the correct wayto go about it but it works ok for me. When you are ready to go stumbling go to the general tab and untick tcp/ip this will disable tcp/ip and other items dependant on it. This will stop you connecting to access points, also go back to the middle tab "wireless networks" and untick the box that says let windows manage my network connection.

netstumbler should scan away quite happily then.

I am a n00b too so if any of the above is incorrect someone may let you know. failing that a search using the key phrases of your dilemma may yield an answer.
