Are you running a wireless access point or router? Is XP configured to look for your network? Are there other hotspots in your area competing for your computer?

run your mouse over your network icon in your system tray and let us know what it says. Then, right click it and select properties and let us know those details (bytes sent, received, network ID, etc.). Even with DHCP, XP needs to know which network you want if you are going WiFi.

    Hope this helps,

    Marc

for a second there, I thought he fell for the centrino marketing scheme. You know, the one where they say all you need is a laptop and a wifi card and you can get internet access anywhere, like on mount everest and in the middle of ruins in italy.

I had a guy on the tenth floor stop me the other day, show me his new centrino laptop and tell me he still can't get to the web. I tried to explain to him about wap's and got a blank stare. I told him for a few hundred dollars I could get him setup, but i think that was too much. He looked kind of hurt that he couldn't do what he wanted with what he had.
