Windows XP-Windows XP file sharing is somewhat finikey. There are many things that could make it not work.
i just tested this with XP Pro and 2k machine and it did indeed allow access to the share. i'm new enough to XP that I didn't know about simple file sharing...
i don't have access to XP home; however...

On XP Home, you can boot into safe mode, and then you should be able to see the NTFS permissions.

ok, so I rebooted in safe mode on got on as administrator.
From here i could see all the permissions and so forth.
They all already had everyone on there, but i went ahead and added network and my carputer on there.
one reboot later annnnnnd... nothing; exact same error
In other news, i tried creating a new shared folder,
set permissions for it and everything, but the carputer doesnt even see this folder.
(i can see all the other home network shared folders, its just when i click on them to navigate through their contents i get that permission error.)
I also tried mapping the shared folder on my carputer as a drive in dos, and i got a
network path not found error

ok, so ,
Basically the carputer is not detecting any network whatsoever, it did at some point, and the shared folders that i can see from my carputer are not from any present network that it is detecting.
When I goto My network places>Entire network> microsoft windows network:
i get this error
unable to browse the network
the network is not present or not started
So, essentially, somehow i am getting internet acces, but no network connections. Even though my wireless network connection status says "wireless network connected [NETGEAR}
any clues here?

i got netgear, check your router settings and see if you have mac enabled in your wifi settings, if it is you need to add your cars mac address to the list of acceptable mac addresses. check if you have your region set right and channel picked higher than channel 1.
check and see if you have Allow Access From "Any" Name unchecked.
if no worky, than i am currently stumped.

try this,
you got a nic in the car? (network card)
get a length of cat 5 cable and run it from the car to the router. see if that works.

Ok, so i pulled everything downstairs,
hooked into the router via cat5,
ran set up home or small office network,
enabled the network,
disabled the USB wireless lan,
annnnnnnnnnnd,
same problem.
nothing is new
my carputer shows the same folders that get a permission/unavailable error when i try to click on them. It doesnt even update the new folders that i have shared on the other computers.
Soooo... now.
I have 3 computers all hardwired to a netgear router,
2 of the computers work fine (xp home)
1 gets permissions errors on the network but can still acess internet (xp pro)
