Carputer 2: www.lmaocar.com
hi i would like to try this free internet from t mobile, i don't have a t mobile sim card so what one should i get, also will it matter if i get a t mobile pay as you go or monthly sim card, another thing will this work in the uk, any information would be very greatful thanks, my email is rt45433@hotmail.com
I personally gave up on this as our local cell provider came out with a wireless data service for $40 a month unlimited. It is supposed to be around 2.4mb/sec which is not too bad. I plan to get the UTStarcom 6700 PPC phone and use it as a modem in the car.
Wholy crap, this thread is still going? I stopped visiting the site a while ago cuz was too busy with work and things. Glad to see things are still going strong. I might actually be getting back into the carputer world....
BTW the free t-zones thing is still working strong. I use it all the time. only pay $5.99 /month.
I have been following this thread hoping to find the answer to a question, with no such luck.
So, here I am posting this question:
I currently have my Sony Ericsson K700 used as a modem to connect my Gateway MX3215 via bluetooth. I have the two paired, and the connection is at around 115 kbps. But, when I want to browse the web on my laptop, the request times out. I am using the T-zones gprs, and it works perfectly on my phone when I want to browse the web using Opera mini.
Are there any internet settings on my laptop that I am missing, or need to set? If anybody has the answer, I would tremendously appreciate it!
From what I was able to figure out, the t-zones ($5.99/mo) thing only gets you wap pages, and only from yer phone - or at least that's as far as I've gotten. I was able to establish a dial-up connection (via bluetooth) using the phone from my carpc, but was unable to surf. I knew I was connected cuz I could do DNS queries, but that's about all the traffic I was able to generate.
Anyone else got any words of wisdom?
EDIT: I found plenty of resources on the 'net directing you to the modem's properties, instructing you to put in AT codes and extra connection params. This is not necessary. What I finally stumbled across were that a) IE doesn't work, while FF does... Go figure... b) just about anything is available through a proxy. I did find an article (don't remember where - gruups.com I think) that talked about putting in a proxy address, but because I have my own, I just opted to use that instead. Which prings me to point c) port 143 seems to go through just fine, while port 80 does not. So, I simply set my PC up to connect via BT to my phone over COM3, set my proxy server and port in FF's connection settings, and surfed.
Not blazing speed, but certainly respectable for checking traffic maps and stuff on the way home from the office in this God-forsaken mess we have here in Houston!

If it's not fun, you're not doing it right!
Cool, I appreciate the help! Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work out. I downloaded FF and set the connection setting to automatically detect the proxy. I did this because I don't know what my http proxy is. On your phone, did you have the option to use a proxy set to yes? I guess I'll do a little trial and error. Thanks Again!

After looking on T-Mobile's site for service plans, I have a question. Is 'T-MobileWeb' the same as 'T-Zones'?
