wireless internet with cinguler

just wanted to share this with anyone with cingular an a modem capable phone. I have a nokia 7250 that acts as a modem thru ir or data cable to a computer. I tried at first to use the phone as a modem with a dialup number, but it drops the connection instantly, i found that you need to have web service for the modem function to work. I had a free trial that they gave me and it worked flawlesly!, when it came time to pay i cancelled my subscription to the net service. I recently found out that there is a pay per kbit usage that they offer for free, and 2cents per kbit usage. I tried this out, hoping that the connection that you use doesnt reflect back to the kbit usage. It doesnt, it only uses your minutes since you are using a dialup number. So free nights/weekends you can be connected in your car to the internet! I tried this out on a trip out of state, free roaming, driving in the middle of nowhere on the internet on the weekend, got my bill didnt charge for a single $, ive been using this alot getting directions and checking email while in traffic.

The last time I tried cingular, they charged me $3.99 a month to enable data service so that I can use my phone as a modem. It uses the minutes and I can connect to a regular ISP like earthlink. The problem is the connection speed is SLOW as hell at 9.6kbps. I've switched to Sprint and use the Vision and am able to connect at 144kbps. The responds speed is still slow but once the pages started loading, its fast.

ya i use the net on my t616 (thru bluetooth) on cingular and the connect it at 115kbs. which is not bad it prety much like the normal internet connection. i pay a extra 20 dollars for unlimited internet and 1500 texts and 300sms which is cool for me.
