ok.. can confirm I have been using a unreg'd o2 pay as u go sim. with zero credit on it. I used it all day saturday surfing and on msn.. and its still working great. I do have a couple of spare sims thats why am bashing this one just to see if its capped. It does say.. free upto 1mb month. I have well gone over this !!

btw I'm using a gprs cf card, in a pcmcia adapter.. I got this free with my pda from dell ..

    cheers

    I am a believer

A lot of posts are saying one thing and you guys are saying another. It apparently works now but not at the end of the month

I should have my chip in a few days. I hope it does last longer than the end of May.

OK. This is what I understand:

    http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices...0,,112,00.html

"O2 Active via GPRS is charged at rate of 2.35 per MB"

o2 WAP was FREE before Febuary 2004, then they started charging.

Also, o2 say it cannot be used for mobile internet, ONLY WAP.

So.... What the ***** are we on about then??

Well, I got my o2 sim as it was cheaper than Orange's 4 a meg...

Then I found it WAS possible to get web access by putting the WAP gateway in as a proxy server in IE.

Then I noticed it didn't ALWAYS charge for use...

Then both Jamez_Warner/ Cloudy and my brother lost their Net at home and started using it too and discovered it worked fine after you ran out of credit.

Then we noticed even with the FREE o2 sims, it STILL works without topping them up initially.

I would however recommend no-one takes the **** with it, and is happy to pay the 2.35 a meg if they HAVE to, as o2 will probably stop this from working at some point.

well all I did was take it out of the packet.. inserted it into my mobile.. turned on. About a min later I got a txt saying.. "Do you want to activate gprs2.. I said yep..again a min later another txt which setup my gprs settings. I did however need to change the apn to payandgo.o2.co.uk once this was done I could surf on wap via my mobile phone !.. so then after some help from mp3car_uk I rigged up my laptop.. stuck in the proxy and bobs your uncle.. infact i'm on it now :-)

I will follow your settings on the other thread, and set up ie to use a proxy. I will let you know when I get the chip.

    Thanks for all the info.

Yup, it works perfectly .... slow at times but all I need it for is low speed access.
