The Sanyo VM4500 and the Sanyo 8100 (I'm pretty sure) have the ability to up the transmission speed. I'm not at work so I'm going to find the code to type in to pretty much do everything on the phone, lots and lots of hidden things, but also many things to **** your phone up if you don't know what you are doing

##040793 then hit ok, goto rate set, and select the 144/230k, then hit ok. You are then set. This is on the VM4500 by Sanyo, and I connect at 230k which is very decent. ##33284 (then either # or OK button) is if you have a Samsung phone but you have to have your lock code which you can get by buying a data cable for it and running BitPim.

I was just reading up on the terms of service for the prepaid service, and it says if your balance falls below 50cents for longer than 90 days, they terminate your service..... so you should be able to buy a 10$ prepaid card, wait 60 days (or however long) for your minutes to expire (0$ balance), and then another 90 days before your account gets terminated. So you would have 150 days before you have to get another 10$ prepaid card (if you are only using GPRS)

    Is this correct?

noob question: what can you do with GPRS? Can you only visit text only sites or can you use your phone like a modem and really surf the net and download email and such?

gprs is the packet stream that you use to access data over most cell phones; with tmobile, you can use wap over gprs to access websites, but with the free internet thing, there are only certain tcp ports open (80, for internet pages, email port which I think is 23, and a few others)...if you want all ports open, they sell a package for an additional 20 a month on a contract plan that is made for laptop/carputer connectivity; additionally, I think there is a plan you can get for 30 a month that is made for just data; you can read all about these things on www.howardforums.com , they are the experts for the most part, and can answer any question you have
