    Net on mobile in UK?

Can anyone tell me how to get on the net using my mobile as a modem?
I've tried various things I've read but can't connect. My mobile (Ngage) is set up as a modem on the carpc but I cant work out what to use as number/name/password. I'm on o2.

    Thanks... Rob.

    Hey there,

Are you planning on using GPRS or dialup?? I'm using O2 Payg for 'net access over gprs and dialup depending on what I am using it for.

I've never had a problem using my mobile for dial up. Just set up a normal ISP eg freeserve annd dial in using your phone as the modem. I might have a go at setting up a GPRS connection though. Don't have the sony drivers on my PC (jus tusing generic bluetooth modem) so i don't know if you can do a normal ISP connectiont hrough GPRS or if you have to connect throught he orange GPRS. Will look into it when i get home.

    EDIT: wanadoo not freeserve!

What package are you on? everyone knows moby contracts are fiendish... i'd love to do gprs, and i have a nokia 6100 i think (opens phone) yes, it is...
I'm killing my voda contract 'cause it's silly and i roll over all my free minutes being an antisocial cow and texting everyone.
My gf is on 02 so i may as well use them.... any thoughts on packages? did you explore it, or just use what you had?

I am on Orange with an O2 400 tarriff (needs updating). My phone bill is normally over 70 and often in 3 figures (thats why it needs updating or i just need to lay off the phone calls). If i get the GPRS set up i will prebuy a couple of meg. Might just change to orange premier so i can upgrade in 9 months and you get the GPRS bundle thrown in. I spend about 5-8 a month checking email every so often and getting cinema info and stuff - so it will mount up if you do any browsing.

You might find O2 in not as good as Voda but in Manc land you should be ok. My mate lives in Cornwall and hardly gets anythin on O2. But thats Cornwall for you! I'd say go 3G - phones are a bit smaller now (new LG) and the data rates are much better.

EDIT: PS then you can do the video messaging.....need to get me a kinky g/f and buy her a 3G phone

The reason I went with O2 PAYG is because I didn't want to get into the realms of a contract just for incar use, the idea is to leave the phone hidden in the car so I don't have to mess about disconnecting cables etc and my main phone connects via BT to Phoco and the 'net phone uses a serial cable.

I buy a 4MB bundle a month for 4 which pretty much tends to last me as it isn't all that often I use internet access on the move. (Although I am cheating by using the contract APN for GPRS), the only downside is that to continue using the system I have to top up at least 10 every month.

I'm keeping my eye out for when 3g goes payg or three collapse their walled garden but I doubt that will happen in a hurry!!! Grrrr

Yeah if you can get a PAYG with GPRS undle that is the best route and have it hardwired into your car. Then maybe you can also us eit as a security device for tracking the car. That is what i will do with my T68i (got it refurbed by orange on my insurance as it had a few faults just before i upgraded so i have a nice shiny refurb that works ready to go in)
