    bluetooth blues :(

I have a bluetooth adapter/dongle from these guys on ebay. I installed the software and it says it is good to go. Next I have this GPS Reciever. Great little GPS i might add.

    Here comes the problem part:

When I turn the GPS on, the bluetooth adapter recognizes it and I go through the little setup for the com ports. All is good right, wrong, when I go to use a GPS program (Topo 4 and 5, Routis 2004, Copilot 2003, MapPoint 2004, I've tried them all) and point it to the incoming com port it says that there is no GPS data coming in. What am I missing? I have the bluetooth enabled on the GPSmart. If i didn't then the dongle would have never picked it up. I really don't care for the software that came with the dongle, cause it puts an icon on the desktop and taskbar that can't even be used. Is it me who is missing something ( I'm new to bluetooth ) or is it the dongle, or could it be the GPS. How would i go about troubleshooting the problem????

    Do you have XP SP2?

Do you see two BT icons in the tray? My Belkin with XP SP2 required me to change the driver for the MS BT Enumerator to use the Belkin driver to avoid it thinking there were two adaptors or something.

Yes, that's what I had to do, Belkin have a document to take you through it, I can send you a copy if you think it'd help.

well it sort of worked, now i can't get any of my applications to get data from the com ports. Routis only goes to com port 9 and can't be configured. I emailed them and they said I could just change the bluetooth com port, but I can't seem to figure it out. I go into the device manager and to ports, but there is no where in there for me to change the port. Anyways I try MapPoint 2004 with Advance GPS and put in the port and still nothing. I also noticed that sometimes when I go back to "my bluetooth places" that the connection isn't connected, so I connect and it does connect. What else do I have to do now? This is more complicated then networking.

ukchris, that document was great that you sent me, thanks
