If you have a wireless access point in the house, both cars can connect to it while parked in the driveway or garage or whatever. Configure the access point correctly to work with the home LAN, then when both cars connect to it, they'd be able to see the home LAN as well as each other, and use AIM.
Although I personally think that any instant messenger software in a carPC isn't such a good idea, but that's just me.

I'd also recommend using some punctuation. Making your multi-setnece thought into one unseparated run-on is confusing and makes peoples' heads hurt.
    Some capitalization wouldn't hurt, either.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

I cant imagine why you would want to IM people from your driveway. You might as well just walk inside. You may want to look into GPRS, or using your cellphone to access the internet from anywhere you have a cell tower. The bandwith can be low but shoud be fine for AIM. Just search this forum and you will find what you need.

Reading/Typing whihle driving sounds about as distracting as you can get. I hope your planning on having your co-pilot doing this

So you want both cars on the internet at the same time?

I believe he would like to create an ad-hoc wireless network b/ the cars

Although, IM has to contact the server to work, I believe, so it would only work at home or where an actual internet connection is present.

    just my thoughts...

I think I get it, are you sure that you want AIM, or would just simply being able to talk to the car next to you threw a wireless network be good enough? It sounds as if you really just want that rather then actual wireless internet.

How about rowing down the window or opening the door and talking.

usb and serial cable for celi's are some what cheap, ranging between 10 to 30 bucks off ebay. I bought one for my nextel to use it as a modem just so I can update my Microsoft trips, and pull weather whenever, where ever. The thing is, cel phone providers offer different things for different prices. Nextel requires a 10 buck monthly charge just to connect, and then you provide an isp seperately and also loose out on airtime. I have unlimited aol, which I can't believe I got but enables dia-upl as well as use my cable at home and have 3 other people in on it so divided it's cheap. Check you cel service provider.. I saw that Verizon provides unlimited, wireless dsl for like 70 bucks a month.
