I agree. Even though you won't really be able to stream movies or anything like that, it's still great to get the weather and news loaded relatively fast.
I think I saw a guide somewhere where you can just have your phone connected through bluetooth and be able to use the internet connection. Have you ever heard of this method?
Drane,
You have to go into your phone and change some of the default settings to get it to work. This will show you all you need to know:

I use dun occasionally on my LG Dare for free. However, I have the unlimited data package for my phone. So I don't get charged anything additionally. I recommend that you get a data package and use it every so often. So when you do connect through DUN it doesn't raise any suspicion. There have been reports of people getting caught and being hit with monster bills. So, beware.
It's called Internet Sharing or Bluetooth Dialup. I used to use it all the time when I had my EEEPC as my carpc. Worked great! As stated a few posts back, streaming video is no good but I was able to stream internet radio or scrobbling such as Last.FM with no problems. I have a Verizon Windows Mobile smartphone and have been using the bluetooth dialup and/or via USB for about four years or so without issues. Downloading is definitely acceptable, at least it was for me. My EEEPC was running UBUNTU Linux and I was able to update/install packages using my Internet Sharing connection just fine.
Verizon has become very strict with tethering phones. They have crippled the software needed to be able to tether and set up the phone as a modem. Older phones still have what was in them obviously, but newer phones have this done. This is all in the name of charging a seperate fee of $15 a month for tethering. I have tried to get my phone to tether on a couple of seperate occasions, and have not been able to get it to work no matter what software I have downloaded or tried to add parts of. That is my experience anyway.
I never used the tethering service. I always installed the free app Internet Sharing allowing me to connect just fine through bluetooth or usb. Plus I have a "cooked" ROM from PPC Kitchen. I prefer my custom ROMs rather than the stock and never had any issues. Never paid a separate tethering charge. Although I will make note that I do pay for an unlimited data plan which is the same price as that tethering...call it what you like..it's all a numbers game.
I forgot to mention that I even was recently using on my CarPC running Windows 7 with no issues. I have a Verizon XV6900 (HTC Vogue) running WM6.5. I was using the connection through USB rather than bluetooth only because it's more convenient...no extra dialup steps. O/S just recognizes as an internet connection and connects.
I have used my laptop and cell phone in the past, however, just bought a new laptop and new cell phone vx5600 accolade and I am not able to make it work. Phone keeps saying....not connected for service. Do you think the blue tooth connection would work? How? Can you help?
