I have the oppurtunity to work with many hundred desktops and laptops using wireless. From my experience the problem has been solved through three methods.
I would recommend doing one at a time and see if it works.

    1. Go into the 802.11 driver in device manager and look for the the power saving feature. Make sure it is always off or disable for your device! Power save enable or automatic setting has known to cause issues with our machines. Very important with sp2
    2. Manually disable then enable the device in device manager.
    3. Install the msoft patch.

And what do you think that does? Same thing as the XP Sock Fix, disabling then reanbling causes the adapter to renew everything(ip/dns) which is how the problem is caused when one of the settings does acquire a appropriate value.
