Thread: New to internet access throuh carPC, need some help to what I need or don't need!

I have the lg pm-325 as well. You're right phonecontrol does not work with this. I can at least get it to dial, pickup, and talk handsfree. No callerid as of yet, but I'm working on it. Anywho, all you need is a bluetooth dongle(and software for it--probably widcomm drivers) and your phone. That's it.

Pair your phone and computer. You will not connect to any other bluetooth device unless it's paired.

For internet access, create a new network connection and use your phone as the modem(it should say bluetooth modem). For internet access the number is #777. You don't need a username or password. That's it!

P.S. Make ABSOLUTELY certain that you have a vision plan. It will cost you. Take note that this isn't supported by sprint.

So I don't need the PCS manager software? I was told I needed it by too many people that didn't know anyone else. I got the dongle from Best Buy with the software, and I am about to down and try to pair these up and try it out.

are you referring to phonecontrol? Some functions would be better then nothing I guess. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need anything else. The guy at the sprint store told me he didn't have any data cables for this phone, so you can understand how much good info I got. As little as I know about bluetooth, I had to teach this guy a little about it.

Is there any configuration besides just the default config for the modem and putting in the phone number? I paired them up, and it had a bluetooth dialup modem. But when I went to connect, I got an error saying there was a problme with the modem. I don't know if the phone needs to be configed besides the normal pairing. What dongle did you use?

It's funny. I got the Kensigton bluetooth adapter from Best Buy. You do not need the PCS manager software. This phone does not have OBEX. The only thing we can do with this phone is hand free/headset and dial up networking. So adreess book,contacts, etc over bluetooth is out of the question.

I was creating some custom software similar to phone control becuase it didn't work for this phone. I was able to do those things using AT commands over the bluetooth serial connection.

I got it going, and at pretty good speed too. I still have to configure this thing so I can tell it to log on when I want it to, and figure out how to get it to go into hibernation. I think there is some stuff on the forum about it. Man that sucks it won't work with phonecontrol. I am thinking about returning this phone to RadioShack tomorrow and ordering one off of ebay.

I was having problems because it wasn't recognizing it, or really I think I was trying to setup some kind of headset. This bluetooth is new to me.

One of the things I have been trying to figure out while on this forum, is whether or not I can have internet access without using the mobile phone, or without hunting for open networks. I tried the wirless adapter, "g", but that seemed to be more of finding open networks, not for getting real internet access from a service provider that I would actually pay for have on all the time. Is that on here, or is that just not an option. I have been confused by that since day one. I wouldn't imagine there would be because you would be moving constantly in and out of ranges. But I figure that police cars have it, planes, buses, and other things. Am I missing something, or is the phone the only way. Anyway, thanks for the help, and if you got any config tips for the phone setup, let me know.

Sprint has a data card you can buy (along with the $70 data plan--required). It's PCMCIA though. Other than that I don't know of any wireless ISP's other than using your phone for internet acess or the 802.11x wifi route. Yea, I was checking out that website, that was the first place to come up on my search results when I was looking for the software I thought I needed. Of course at that time I didn't understand what I needed. Thanks for the help. I think Im going to return my phone tomorrow and buy the t608 off of ebay for $100, and then sell the phone I just bought. I just got a new sprint plan last month, but had no idea I would be wanting internet access in the car at that time. Wasnt' something that comes up on a day to day basis. Thanks for all the help man,

I'm going to get this phone next month once I have reached the 18 months with Sprint. That way I almost get it for free (with another 2 year contract ). When you are dialing on using your phone it doesn't use your minutes, you just have to make sure you are paying for Vision.
I'm not sure if I'll order vision again or not as I never used it much before.
