Wireless Game Adapter

Is it possible to use a wireless game adapter for a carputer? (or any computer for that matter)

This seems like a really obvious question but there is no mention of using the game adapter with a PC for internet access on the Linksys site. Yes, I used the search function but I didn't find anything on the forum either.

I'm looking at the Linksys WGA54G adapter for use in my car. This seems like the way to go since it wouldn't tie up a USB port or the PCI slot and it would use the unused ethernet jack. My only concern is the ability to use an extended antenna and powering the adapter. Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

Bad idea. I have that adapter, and I use it for my ReplayTV. It's good for very specific uses, but in an environment like a car, it will SERIOUSLY cramp your style.

You will not be able to:
1. Connect to more then one network without reconfiguring it manually.
2. Map access points
3. Do just about anything.

If you're REALLY worried about taking up a USB port, invest $15 for a USB 2.0 hub, not $100 for an adapter that will leave you seriously disapointed.

This isn't a slam against the hardware, like I said, I have one, it's that there are SERIOUS limitations you encounter when you use this adapter for anything other then a fixed emplacement.

Wireless xbox controller with USb converter. I'm going for the wired one.

01331, I think he's talking about the network adapter, not the controller adapter.

Yes it's possible. It's also known as wireless ethernet bridge, which sometimes sells cheaper than those that are badged "game adpaters".

But like Chairboy mentioned, you'll be tied up to one network unless you manually reconfigure it. I'm using an xbox adapter and it works for me since I only use it to connect to my home network for system maintenance and updates.
