So... where can I get a suitable connector I can wire to a standard coax socket?

It's called a UFL connector. You probably want something like this:

CarPC status: HW all done, SW needs tweaked.
    Hardware: VIA MII-12K, 512MB, 60GB 2.5", CW-8123 DVD-CDRW, 7" Lilli ts, Opus 90W, BU-353 GPS, 802.11b PCI, USB bluetooth dongle, AverMedia AverTV Cardbus Plus, Morex Cubid 3677

Is that the exact correct connector? It's hard to tell from the picture. If it is, I'll place an order for the cable and a 5.5dBi antenna form the same site.

If you look at the pictures of the mini-PCI wifi cards on that page, you can see the same tiny square coaxial connectors as the one on your card. I installed a mini-PCI card in my Toshiba laptop once and recognized your connector right away.

That's partly why I'm worried. It looks so like the connector on the circuit board, I'm worried they won't mate.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'll take a look at it tonight. If there is epoxy in there, it's really not much so I should be able to clean it out.

Epoxy? Your connector looks fine to me, I wouldn't tamper with it. Just order the pigtail, things will mate just fine. The pcb connector is male, the pigtail is female.
