    Treo 650 - PDANET

    Hi guys,

Disclaimer: I've read the other Treo 650 threads.

I'm about to buy one of these guys (all signs point towards it, at least). Seems to do everything I want, and like the rest of you, I also looked at ways to use it as part of my carputer. There's been some discussion of a (buggy) hack that enables the DUN profile. I've also recently stumbled across a program called PDANET that promises to do the same thing, but with slightly less of the crashing and the hurting and the glaven.

Does anyone here have any experience with this? Any yays/nays? I must confess a fascination with the idea of an always on connection in my car. The irony that I am currently moving out of Los Angeles (which has online traffic reporting) to Springfield, OR (which barely has electricity and indoor plumbing) when I'm getting this is not lost on me.

Anyhow, whether or not anyone has experience with this, thought I'd throw it out there for review if anyone is interested.

Interesting. I have been looking into getting a treo aswell. All the comments look good (although i doubt they post the bad ones)

If you get this let us know what happens.

I've had some issues with using PDANet - connection drops, phone crashing, etc.. but it is noteworthy that with this tool the connection HAS to be initiated by the phone, not the PC. Not the most elegant solution for a Car PC, since I'd like to have it so that whenever the CarPC needs the internet, it can automatically connect via bluetooth, without having to hit something on the Treo to start it. I'm working on other possibilities now, and will post if I'm successful with any of them using the Treo 650.

so your saying that the treo 650 doesnt support dial-up-networking with bluetooth? (to get umlimited vision/1xRTT web access)

the next question would be .... does the treo 650 even support regular DUN with a usb cable connected to a PC? id hope so!!!

It doesn't support it out of the box, but this PDANET and the Shadowmite hack are two ways to get it.

I think this applies to both cable and bluetooth. The headset supports it, but Cingular/Sprint/et al specifically asked for it to be turned off.

If you turn on the DUN profile, after you are done using it you have to reset your phone. People don't know if sprint just turned it off so people wouldn't use the network(which doesn't make sense) or if it really is because how buggy and instable the DUN hack is. The reason why this doesn't make sense is because I have a ppc-6600(pocket pc phone) and bluetooth DUN is fully supported, and it even comes with some helper software for DUN through a USB cable! Seems as if Sprint is even trying to help me use my phone's data connection.
