I'm new to this ****.. so is it possible to get a Vcast (verizon service) phone and get the Vcast high speed unlimited air time plan (15.00/mo.) and connect that up to your car PC so that you can surf on your car PC through the phones high speed connection?
NO!!! it's totally not. Vcast is not internet. If you want to do that, either leave the account without vcast on an EVDO phone, and hope not to get billed for data useage for the time you use, or pay the $80 a month for the unlimited data plan. Using it with Vcast doesn't change anything.
So using that Vcast won't give me a broadband connection to the internet.. So what the hell is that Vcast then? lol...
What are the typical speeds then with the EVDO phone?
Vcast is a video service, where you can get streaming videos and news reports. EVDO phones can provide up to a 1.2 mb connection, but usually its around 500-800K, which is still super fast mobile. Your phone will connect at those speeds even if you don't sign up for vcast, which is pretty much worthless. Vcast still charges you a premium for most content. Using the phone as a modem without a data plan is a violation of the TOS and you might be charged or worse.
I wonder if an EVDO phone on prepaid would allow connections to the data service? Is EVDO billed with airtime, too?
What does EVDO stand for anyway and I assume almost any cell company offers this service right? i never knew you could get fricken that fast on a cell phone.. I always thought they sucked *** for any type of speed.. like trying to download/load ring tone or game pages on a cell phone is a slow *****.
I'm pretty sure they won't do a prepaid evdo phone. Also, it's only for CDMA, the GSM version of high speed is EDGE and HSDPA . EVDO is currently only available from Verizon in the USA and sprint is supposed to be rolling it out by the end of the year. Also, SK / Earthlink, when they start selling phones, will be on the Verizon network and offer a lot of cool EVDO and future EVDV phones.
