Don't use rg58, the signal loss would be horrible. Take a look at www.fab-corp.com for some proper wiring.
Anyone here made their own wireless extension cable?
I'm getting a very poor signal at the moment because my antenna is buried in the dash so I'm planning on buying a length of RG58 and a male & female RP-SMA connector and making my own extension.
Then I'll probably mount the antenna against one of my A-pillars in the car.
thanatos106 - Both those links refer to Bluetooth!
Tuckie - Why would the signal loss be horrible? I wouldn't be using more than 50cm of cable. Are there any other RG sizes that would be better?
I have made a 3M extension lead.
Not tested yet though.
I've done a quick Google. Apparently LMR-195 is the low-loss equivalent of RG58. Where will I buy it though? (UK).
Maplin are actually quite cheap for the RP-SMA connectors. (Compared to some other sites).
So what?? is a just how to guide............... you get the antenna and the pictail/connnectors from hyperlinktech.com
search ebay for "pigtails" with your type of connection , rp-sma etc.. , and or LMR-100,195,400, LMR400 is the best common cable but its not very flexable
