You don't need to pay for the laptop connection. You just sign up for internet on the phone, and it works through the laptop, and you don't get raped.Originally Posted by cdm

Like what's been said above, the unlimited media net will allow you to tether, it's just not supported and if at some point they decide to change things or bill you for extra stuff....there might not be a whole lot you can do besides "play dumb". Just don't call cingular asking for directions on how to do it or support, it may just raise the wrong flag and they won't support it anyway.
I just got an LG CU500 (one of the 3G phones) and it works wonderful over the high speed network. In town here I get 3G pretty much everywhere, and then it'll fall back to EDGE when out of 3G range. But I tether over bluetooth and I regularly get from 200-500kbps (it's a little faster when using a usb cable), PLUS you can still take a voice call and have the internet going at the same time. With EDGE it just "pauses" any internet activity while you're on the phone but with 3G it can do both.

I'll second the suggestion to check howardforums.com, lots of good phone/provider info there. As long as you have a normal (non-pda, non-smartphone) you should be fine with a media connect package). I've seen some threads where people with the blackjack or other pda/smart phones have only been able to signup for the PDA connect plans because those phones are considered PDAs.

keep in mind thought that you need a 3G SIM card for 3G to work on your new 8525....

yes, if you want to use 3g and not just edge. I went to a local cingular authorized retailer and got a 3g sim
I got my 8525 in december and i was using media net unlimited up untill this month. It became the media max 200 bundle somehow on its own
This is ok with me however, because they are still charging me 19.99 and now I have 200 text messages as well as unlimited internet. I called cs before buying the phone to make sure that I could keep media net
