    Do mag-mount antennas scratch roof?

I just ordered a magnetic mount wifi antenna off of eBay. I have been planning its location and how to route the wires, when something popped into my head. Does the bottom of the antenna scratch the cars clear coat when it is mounted?

I have thought about glueing felt to the base to stop scratches. I havn't received the antenna yet, and felt might make the base too slippery. maybe a thin piece of rubber?

What have your expiriences been with mag-mounts?

I would never put a mag mount on any car I cared about the paint job.

i think you'll be fine as long as you make sure that the area of the roof is dirt- and dust-free when you put it on. also you may want to periodically remove the antenna and make sure it's clean around the edge of the magnet-mount base.

edit: the magnet-mount base most likely already had a thin piece of rubber so that it won't scratch the paint..

They will scratch the paint job over time. Especially if you get water under the antenna. What I like to do is take it off when I'm not using it. My wifi antenna is only up on the roof when I am wardriving. However, since I never plan on moving it, the Sirius antenna is always there.

another thought would be to attach some clear packing tape to the roof, in the shape/diameter of the base of the magnet mount.
