    USB wifi with external antenna?

Is there any usb wifi adapters that can be used with an external antenna?

This one WUSB54GP looks like it might do it. Has anyone tested it?

I haven't had very good luck with USB adapters having any sort of range. I would stick to either a PCI or PCMCIA card with an external antenna.

I am using a Network Everywhere NWU11B (they are made by linksys) that I modified to work with an external antenna. If you have even minimal soldering skills and can find a coaxial pigtail cable (one with a connector only on 1 end), it's very easy to do.

I have a USB Orinocco Gold.
It is USB and has a base for setting on a desk etc....
Best thing about it is : Inside is a Orinocco Gold PCMCIA card. This card has an external antenna connection and is know to be the best card for sensitivity and thoroughput..
I have seen others break into the case to mount an external antenna.
So you get 3 great things. USB, Exernal antenna, and best card on the market.
They are rare and originally retailed by Luscent.

keep an eye out for one.

    Don

EDIT: I have in the car :
    (1) USB2 802.11g Airlink dongle on the front windshield
    (1) USB2 802.11g Airlink Dongle on the Rear Glass
    (1) Orinnoco Gold 802.11b PCMCIA card in the Epia MII PC card slot (soon to have ext antenna )
    all controlled by WinC.

I have a Orinoco Gold, and have loved it.

However, only has settings for upto something like 40-bit encryption, so it isn't compatible with my router. Some new ones probably have better encryption though...
