Time for a new phone! Where to buy...

no i dont think cingular would reflash the whole phone for you...

motorola service centers flash the phone to the latest firmware...

you can also get the data cables and software and do it yourself (read on howardforums.com if you need info)

What the cingular store *could* do was program your stuff for the mms to work, for example... the IP, APN, etc... but i dont think they'll flash... especially afte a guy in a cingular store (rep) told me "it is illegal in this country to unlock a phone"... yeah right mate.... but what can I tell him, I'm just a foreigner, going in to the store to give him some money to pay his salary! hahaha but no, the idiots think they own the world... anyways, I wouldnt go to cing for help... try Motorola service center, give them a call, maybe there is one close by that will flash for a small fee

I had problems with my last moto phone, and cingular was no help for the first two times I called. The third time I called I got a really helpful guy, who flashed my firmware (sent it over, all I had to do was turn the phone off and on) and it fixed everything. So I think it just depends on the service rep... you know, it would be much better if Rafster just answered every time I called customer service!

I just bought a 6230 on ebay. Waiting to get it. Now. Which provider? t-mobile, or cingular? And keep in mind, that i need internet (for free)

My verizon contract just expired and I'm trying to decide as well between verizon and cingular. supposedly verizon is cracking down on people using free laptop/nonphone internet. does anyone here know if thats true or have some thoughts on verizon vs cingular for carputer internet? I heard t-mobile sucks for coverage etc (and same with sprint) so I am avoiding them for the time being.

fyi, just got back from the verizon store and was quoted $59.95 a month for basic nonphone/laptop internet, or $80 a month for EVDO internet. I was about to get the new e815 till I was quoted these crazy prices.

No provider except Verizon give you free internet (They just take away minutes)

T-mobile offers their unlimited internet for $4.99/month check the sticky in Wireless section on here.

Cingular has several rate plans. Right now, for unlimited it's $19.99/month (I get it for free b/c I work for them

The 6230 is a mighty nice phone, too bad nobody reccomended the V635 to you in time ($269, new, unlocked, no contract).

With a bluetooth USB adaptor you can move pictures, wallpapers, pictures, videos to and from your phone, and you can send games to (but not back from, afaik) your phone.

The nokia should have the ability to move pictures and stuff back and forth also, but I'm not 100% sure.

@stapan: I reccomend you pick up the unlocked 635 if you want to try out different services, because you can get a T-Mobile To Go card off ebay and try the internet out on that (and the service) and just dump it if you dont like it, then go to Cingular and get your phone activated on a Month-to-Month contract if you can (they have a 30 day trial anyway, so that should be plenty of time). Unfortunately if you dont like either T-Mobile or Cingular you'll be out of luck because they are the only two GSM carriers in America right now.

I've got cingular and its great (I own a Motorola V635), except I've never bothered getting the wireless internet because I dont have a carputer yet.

Hehe, the nokia also uses expandable memory. IT comes with a 32MB MMC card. I think I have seen those go as big as 512mb-1gb

I got the 815 this week and I am really enjoying it. With my new every 2 it ended up being free. Price was 150 -100 (ne2) and 50 mail in rebate.

I am listening to mp3s on it right now and it sounds great

Also was able to make the bluetooth more functional with a couple edits
