Hehe, sorry i'm just excited.
After a week of fussing around with MAX chips and gprs settings I finally have wireless internet in my car. I was able to score a wavecom GPRS modem from ebay very cheap. So instead of having to buy a expensive PCMCIA card that my machine will not even support I have a serial wireless connection that will work with almost any computer I want to put it on.
Here is the daughterboard I built to give me a standard DB9 connector. I had to use a MAX239 chip because it's the only one I could find locally that had enough I/O's

This modem is awesome because it's a standard GSM modem, all you need is a activated sim card. Which I found out some really cool info this weekend as I was trying to get this activated. I just went into a cingular store and told them I just needed a activated SIM card on a data connect plan. Well they did just that and the best part is they didnt make me sign a contract. So I can cancel anytime.
So now i'm off to find a project box to fit this into![]()

Good job you done there
Whats the extra board in between the modem and the interface board you done?
Very nice job!!!!
Can you post some specs in the modem??? maybe I got that directions too, instead of buy the PCMCIA card (witch my system support *MII12K*) if is cheaper...
Thanatos.
BTW some info in the plan or the place that you got it will be super (I may just go there to get the SIM card if I get this thing rolling).
Thanks! I just need to get away from this FR4 board and get some phonelic so it's easier to work with.Originally Posted by Chris31
That is just a carrier board for the modem, it has a high amperage voltage regulator and some fancy lights to show modem activity![]()
