compusa sale: gonna buy, need advice

    My requirements:

    1. Speed - as i understand, it essentially doesnt matter because most cable modems, etc max out at like 2-3mbps, so any standard works well.

The only thing i NEED speed for is updating my music collection. I want equal to wired. I know the ethernet adapter is 10/100, with 100 being the max on the ethernet side - what do i really get? how fast at max could i send info - so what kind of router would be equal?

    2. range - i would like to get something that has long distance connection, so i probably will need a good antenna, a 1 w amp, and a card that will allow external antennas.

    3. ease of installation... i prefer usb, usb kind of sux because of resume on hibernate problems. pci is doable, but needs to be small.

So what do i get? what kind of wifi card do i get for my pc? they have 802.11g wireless pci and usb stuff for 10 bucks after rebates. Those are linksys, the have a g router for 4.99 after rebates but hawking. are these cheap options, are there better?

does pci, usb, or pcmia have superior features?

searched and have read, but no definitive answers

more search time yielded g as the best right now as far as standards, but SUPER G is where i wanna be for closest to wired...

there seems to be limitations with this? whats the general consensus on super g?

what if 50 cent was on crack, is that super g unit?

or what if he found his dorkiness and changed the clique name to
    802.11g unit?

superg, speedboost, turbo mode, all of them are just a way of enhancing the signal a little but to gain that you *usually* have to buy the same manufacturers kit for both ends of the link or it wont work (eg proxims 108 turbo wont work with superg 108).

no matter what you buy, you wont get anywere near the maximum speeds on the box- google some reviews and see what speeds they got, noone with a G card actually gets 54mbps and in the end you link will be way slower than a 100mbps hardwired lan card.
