Hello.
I am putting a computer system in my car which will have EVDO and wifi internet access, so I have a decent amount of bandwidth. At home I have a windows and a linux computer (both with tv tuners) and a cable modem.
What I want to know is this: How can I stream my cable tv stations to my car computer and be able to change the channel?
I know that I can use windows media encoder to send out a WMV stream from a given channel on my home computer, but it requires me to select the channel at the headend.
Is there any way (preferably simple) to send a video stream to my carputer and allow channels to be changed remotely, on the fly?
Thanks
Steve
Why would anybody want to be stuck driving with a roof over their head?
Ragtops all the way!
But what about bandwidth? I cant even stream a 128k MP3 file over sprint.
Current projects: iGmod reloaded (Latest release) (put on hiatus indefinatly)
Unlimited Internet and gps tracking for $6 a month with boost mobile!
Carputer 2: www.lmaocar.com
ATI TV cards let you stream over a network ( wireless / wired )
I have never used it, but it looks good.
wow. Cool. Most of my area is covered by verizion's EVDO high-speed network, so bandwidth shouldn't be a problem
Thanks a lot

It allows you to remotely surf channels, and no subscription fees.
dang it hihidamon, you beat me to my suggestion!![]()
from what I hear (I do not actually own one), it automatically adjusts the video size to whatever your bandwidth is, allowing larger pictures at higher bandwidth and lower pictures at lower bandwidth. Now I don't know if the bandwidth is measured at the slingbox or at the end-user getting the signal, but either way the slingbox sounds awesome. It even learns the buttons on your TV/cable remote control, so you can remotely change channels, or even play back your DVR/PVR recorded shows.
It gets myseal of approval.
orb only works with certain TV tuners. Beyond TV works with pretty much all but it costs money.
Cheaper way of doing this would be to get some sort of Remote Administrator type program and do a remote access to your computer that has the TV Tuner, and just change the channel like as if you were at home.
I use radmin.

the slingbox is totally a valid answer for this

works great over EVDO! and, when i've used it on my edge-based phone, or on my laptop on wifi, it uses totally different bandwidth amounts, and you can see quality change as the size of the screen gets resized.
