    Access point as WiFI client?

    http://www.dlink.com/products/suppor...kInstallGuides

    Can I use this?

The problem I forsee is that for it to be a client, you have to specify a MAC address for it to connect to.

any way around this, to have it autoconnect on the fly?

What are you trying to acomplish?

http://www.smarthome.com/6307.html - that will connect to another access point and make a duplication of it (so it works as a repeater). I put one of these on my friends roof so he could rebroadcast the wireless he was stealing from his neighbor 5 houses away throuought his house.

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=241 - and theres a bridge (ethernet to wireless). To save money you could also get one of them wireless game adapters, they do basically the same thing.)
Current projects: iGmod reloaded (Latest release) (put on hiatus indefinatly)

this would work, but runs into the same problem as the other one - you have to put the SSID of what you're trying to connect to into the config

Your not going to find a cheap standalone bridge that automagically connects to access points. The best solution I can think of is get one of the linksys routers that you can flash the firmware with a linux OS and set it up as a bridge that automatically connects to access points. But I am no expert at linux wireless networking, and have never tried to image flash linux on to one of those so good luck.

You could write software to change a bridge's configuration on the fly to connect to access points if you had a dedicated computer on the network. Or you could code that into a pda and duct tape together a bridge, a hub, and a pda and code the automatic connecting program on the pda. For extra style open the bridge and stuff the cicutry for the hub and pda in the bridge.

Yes, these solutions are ghetto. I invite you to think o f something better to do.
