    NetStumbler blocking Hibernate

    Hi All!

I wanted to user NetStumbler running in background of my CarPC to collect AccessPoint position data all the time i drive around. (Supporting this)

The problem is, that NetStumbler automatically blocks Windows from shutting down or going into hibernate.

The guys at the NetStumbler Forums are not very cooperative.

Does anybody have an idea how this "feature" of NetStumbler can be deactivated? Or is there a work-around?

I don't want to stop using hibernate just because of NetStumbler. Now every time i stop the car the Carnetix powersupply cuts the power of the pc because he is not suspending after one minute.

    Regards, Chris

I think I jumped in a bit hard really, but I cant believe how they instantly think anyone who looks for open connections is going to steal oodles of bandwidth etc.

I know just making a connection is technically illegal, but I dont think if I parked outside KFC or something and polled to see if I had any email it would kill the company.

not that my network card ever wants to work these days!

Bunch of twats on NS.com now.

I've been there since the beginning (2001 or 2002), and back then everyone was great. Not any of this 'high horse' syndrome.

Anyways, getting back to the OP's issue, I think if we can find an old version of the program, we should be fine. Problem is, is hopefully an old version will support your card.

Same here, it's going down hill over there. But anyway to the OP have you considered running kismet as apposed to netstumbler? It's really not that hard to set up in windows using a kismet drone. (Linksys WRT54G router.)

    Software http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wrt54g/kiswin.html

Guide to setting up the router. http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wrt54g/openwrt.html

I know this sort of setup involves adding a router but I have been running this setup for a week or two now and am finding that it is finding 30%+ more networks than NS.

    BTW: Great forum guys.

What about a little batch file or autoit to kill NS and resume it when going to hibernation (runing it with the "suspend" APP that one of the members created)

That's the problem - it won't go into hibernation, so that app can't be triggered.

From what I understand you'd use an app that sees a hibernation event, halts it, then runs a batch file or script to do some events (in this case kill NS), then it would run a batch file or script upon resume to do events (in this case open NS) - the problem with this is NS is preventing the comp from ever doing a hibernation event due to inactivity so that app would never run to kill NS - would have to be run manually.
