Engenius/Senao USB Wireless adapter

Just wanted to spread the word, I got an Engenius/Senao wireless USB internet adapter from

I could not be happier with this product. The range is incredible!! I am more than happy using only the supplied antenna with the unit mounted on my rear deck (its about the size of a pack of cigarettes) and getting phenomenal range connection whereever I go. I have not one time failed to find a signal where I have pulled over to jump on the net. I can connect to my home router from at least 6 houses away w/ good signal. Scanning for networks is quick and easy and I haven't even bothered to use netstumbler at all. I am stoaked that I do not need an external antenna for my particular internet needs (never while driving). One downside is that I must say it's annoying that everytime the connection agent discovers an open connection, I have to actually create a profile name for it, and I cannot just connect - (all this really means is that I have to bring up the onscreen keyboard or use my keyboard to enter a name) but to be fair, I haven't even looked into changing the settings or anything to get around this. In fact, Netstumbler would probably get around this problem as well, I might look into it. But other than that, this product is absolutely incredible.

I agree Engenius does make solid wireless products (I own two.) and the range is better than many competing products. Their software and drivers could be better, I assume they've improved over the ones from last year. I just load the drivers and let windows manage the connections. There is another thread here somewhere that discusses how to get the most out of your wireless on the move, i.e., what the most common AP names are and some tweaks for getting window to search and connect without user input. Enjoy!

@J187: Would you mind sharing on which one of the USB adapters listed on the link you've provided you use?

Also, you said that you have good signal coverage upto six houses away. What kind of setup you have at your house? Manufacturer & model of access point? External/internal antenna?

Sorry Edikp, I thought I linked directly to the product. It was the EUB-362 EXT. As far as my setup goes? Its a regular ole Linksys WRT54G.

@Gizmo - I very brieftly allowed windows to manage the connections, but it was not NEARLY as fast as the software from Engenius. Perhaps this was a annomoly.

Just a little academic point: Engenius stuff is mostly rebadged Senao but I haven't heard of the USB versions before.
Senao pcmcia cards have great range because they have roughly six times the output power of previous cards. (Senao/Engenius 200mw tx, vs Orinoco 30mw tx)

Do you know which chipset is used in your USB card?
