    Your PCI 802.11 experiences?

Ok, so there are USB and PCMCIA 200mw solutions availiable for around 100 bucks, but let's not worry about those for now.

Name some of the cheaper 2.4 ghz 802.11 PCI or USB have you tried and acheived good results with.

If you've had lots of experience with some of the lower priced PCI/USB solutions which of them would you reccomend?

I'm using a FoxConn WLL 3350 and am fairly impressed with it, but haven't had enough experience with other solutions to make a fair comparison.

I have a Hawkins 802.11G card with an external antenna (mounted next to the PC) and I have had no problems with it. It works fine in my garage, with 3 walls in between. I only paid about $30 from Newegg.

I have a FoxConn too and it works great in the driveway which is 100 yards from the router with numerous walls in between. I have an ant. on the roof and don't think I could do much better.

100 yards from YOUR router? That's a HUGE house. What antenna?

Just a cheap one from ebay. It came with one but the cable wasn't long enough. I'll try and find a link when I get a chance. It's PCI by the way.

Where in Alabama do you live? You sure it's 100 yards?

The house ain't that big. It's a long rectangle. it's at least 80 yards. I can also see my neighbor's router one house down and across the street but I barely get a connection to his.

I have a PCMCIA card and between here and the shop we use to get papers (about 1.5m) it picks up about 8-12 APs. but will not pick my own router up with the car sitting on the drive next to and below the room its in. But will pick it up on the other side of the house about 10 yards away. Not a problem if I cant pick it up there's a chance no-one else can either as its about 60 yards to the road from the house. The card didnt cost me that much about 20.00 (Ebay noname card) I have a Maplins antenna its cable will just about reach the windowcill never mind the roof (9" lead) and its pointing towards the other side of the house. Hence the pick up differance.

    saffs

I was wondering the same thing.. I think he meant from the end of his driveway to the AP in the house. I've personally never seen a 100 yard house corner to corner, but then again, i live in AL

But then again, so does he.
