Hows reception of the phone so far? Where do you place it? Maybe if its poor or sub-par we can find away to add an external antenna to it. I am searchin ebay and will be getting one soon.

It doesn't show up at all, unless you use a serial cable and enable it, or are accessing it from a java applet on the phone. However, you can run a java applet while using DUN, so I think I could write software to send the NEMA string over the DUN connection as a TCPIP stream. Its on my todo list.
I cant figure out how you could use gps and DUN over serial at the same time, so I can only assume you can't and its one or the other. I don't have a serial cable, and I welcome someone to prove me wrong.

Really, $6/mo. Ive spent $7 so far and ive been using this for just over a month, and ive downloaded at least 50 MB of data off of it. (traffic updates, emails, software, ect). Of course I switch over to sprint whenever I need heavy bandwidth, but unless I am getting podcasts iDen works just fine.Originally Posted by RPM_VR4

I would say on a scale of 1-10, the phone gets about a 7.5... I have perfect reception @ home, but around town there are a couple of dead spots. Though I usually have atleast 2-3 bars out of 5.Originally Posted by mbkowns

P.S. You could always get something like this to help you out... http://www.cell-phone-accessories.co...l-booster.html
No worries. Appreciate you checking it out. Do you think this is fast enough for using with Google Earth at fairly low resoution? That's 90% of what I want it for.Originally Posted by PURDooM
It should be fast enough. Google Earth works fairly well on a 2400-bps modem. You don't need much speed especially once you've built up your cache a bit.
Cool. That's primarily what I want it for (GPS). Truth be told, I'm almost always within a few miles of my house. For other stuff, I can pull near my back and just get on my AP.Originally Posted by RPM_VR4

No, not a real 2400bps, but in remote areas with poor signal my Sprint phone probably dips to around that. The Sprint phone can go as fast as 2x a 56k modem at times too. That stuff doesn't really affect GE that much though unless you change the zoom level or are traveling above a couple 100 MPH. Same goes for weather downloads, GPS log uploads, and most other things you doo often with a CarPC. Speed is not really nessasary for typical CarPC use (unless you are trying to stream media or just really can't stand having to wait a few seconds for your Google Local search results).
