says for that tho, that u have to buy a $100 modem :/
tho, im in Vancouver, so im stuck with those ridiculous charges too, i mean wth is up with $15 per mb??
thats outrageous, makes me wanna use other ppls unprotected wifi +_+
I did a search on the forum for Rogers' Portable Internet and came up empty. Anyone try this out in the car? Did it hand off from access point to access point seamlessly? If it worked then this is our solution to paying those insane wireless data rates we are forced into here in Canada. 1.5 Mbps connection for $49.95 per month isn't bad for unlimited usage!

Thanks!

This is the solution! I'm all teh way out near abbotsford and apparently am still within the coverage area!
Asus Pundit Barebones PC
7" Lilliput LCD
P4 2.8ghz 512mb 120gb
Windows XP Pro, VOICES
Sony Xplode 10in Sub, Rockford 600w amp
Pioneer 6x9's and 4x6's, Kenwood 4ch amp
Black Widow Alarm with Pager
the coverage doesnt look that great for the rogers portable internet, if only that sprint mobile broadband was up here in Canada.
if I could get coverage between Oshawa and Fenelon Falls, i'd be sold.
there are other wireless internet services, but none have a very good coverage area.
Hey Laserlips, your momma was a snowblower!!
damn, my cousin lives in abbotsford, lol
but still, 99 for the modem, then $50 a month? who really needs internet that badly in their car, lol, i want internet, but $50 for my phone and $50 for internet? o_O
and adaminc, thats the best sig ever, i love that movie
screw it, when i get back to Vancouver im gonna get this, when i go to college im gonna be in my car a lot, so i can get this in my car with a router, and on a nice day go to a park and use internet with my laptop
After a while on the phone with a "tech rep" I got the answer I wanted. Rogers Portable Internet is based on the older WiMAX standard. You cannot roam with the device. It can't hop from tower to tower like a cell phone.
i dont need it to hop, i'd really only use it when stopped
but is it based on ONE tower?, like u can go anywhere in ur house, but not across the city?
I just picked it up and they offered it to me for 19.95 per month... i also already have a high speed home modem but I'm gonna try it out for a while and see how it goes.... takes 13 volts dc so looks like Im gonna have to use an inverter on it in the car.....
I'll let u know how it goes..
chris.
fyi... rogers told me that mid next year they should be able to ip handover from tower to tower !!
