    Another 2000 Sunfire

    Hey everyone,
After countless hours of reading, researching and troubleshooting I've finally decided to post a work log for my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire while I'm waiting for the primer to dry. I'll try and list all the software and hardware/tools that I needed to use for my install. I've lost the receipts so I can't list the prices down, but I know the laptop was free

    Hardware
    Compaq Presario 2199US
    USB Hub
    W3bMa5t3r Auto Power-On Module
    Western Digital 120GB External HDD
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA
    BU-353 GPS
    Presario DC-DC power adapter
    Lilliput 7" 619GL-70NP/C/T

    Tools
    Soldering Iron
    Electrical Solder
    Soldering Iron Holder
    Multimeter
    80 Grit Sandpaper
    180 Grit Sandpaper
    Spray Paint Primer
    Spray Paint Flat Black
    Epoxy Putty (3 Tubes)
    Jewler's Kit
1995-2004 Pontiac Sunfire & Chevrolet Cavalier Haynes Repair Manual

    Software
    Freedom Ultimate Skin
    Road Runner
    iGuidance
iFlip (had to put the screen in upside down to fit )
    Winamp
    Shutdown Controller

    Problems Overcame
-iGuidance window name "iGuidance" not "iGuidanceUMPC" for embedding
-iGuidance to pause music when speaking
-Flipped the screen 180 degrees because I had to mount it upside down to fit
-Adjusted sound for 5.1, when I thought it would have been 4.1
-Auto on hack for Lilliput screen
-Vehicle wiring (got my boys from Circuit City in Fayetteville, NC to give me two cigarette lighter adapter hookups behind the LCD so it can SAFELY power the LCD and the Laptop)
-Small, pain in the *** points to solder the turn on module

    Working On
-Getting XM radio integrated into carputer ( I got one of those portable units where you use a subscription device)
-Getting FM radio integrated into carputer
-Mounting laptop into glove box (this will be fun)
-Mounting two fans into glove box
-Run wires from glove box to the back of the LCD
-Hook Audio (2 amps, 4 speakers and 1 Sub) to sound card
-Paint center console once primer has dried.

    Audio Equipment
-Kicker L7 12" sub in ported box
-4 Polk Audio speakers (forgot the model #'s)
    -2 farad Cap
-Kicker SX 650 watt Digital AMP 1 channel
    -Kicker KX AMP 4 channel
-Sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA

I'll post pictures on my next go around of all the stuff and a few pictures for progressive work log from my camera phone. (sorry don't have a digital camera)

-I'd like to note that I've never done this before and I've found out how to do everything by reading the forums here. Countless days of just searching and reading the forums has taught me how to do all of this. I have no car experience, but a lot of computer experience.

Project died. Took a trip to Florida and after about 4 hours the screen flickered and died. Took the center console out and looks like the wire to the DC adapter to the Lilliput touchscreen melted onto each other and shorted out the screen, the DC adapter for the laptop and the lighted climate control. Looks like it'll be a bit longer until I can save up for another Lilliput. A shame, the project was complete except for the audio being bridged (front left and right together, and rear left and right together) and sub not working.

For anyone interested I took a look at how Circuit City wired in the two cigarette lighter adapters and all they did was splice into the head unit's wiring since it wasn't in use. The next step is to figure out why it melted and shorted all this out. Anyone have any ideas??
