    2007 Ford Fusion

    This is my first carPC and my first new car as well. Week or so ago I bought a new 2007 Fusion and so far have loved it, just wished it had navigation and the ability to play DVD's. I had been watching the forums here for ideas long before I actually got my new car and I was mostly waiting until I did get something newer (Past car was a 2000 Focus, didn't look too good for a car PC install) and "better".

    I have all of my parts ordered ... i think, and have been assembling them at home. I snapped a few pictures of the car and everything before I get started, one thing I'm going to be paying major attention to is making sure I can take everything out easily and return the car to a stock look if I ever decide to sell or trade it in.
    Well that was a long time ago, after much heartache and plenty of stops and restarts, here we go again ...

    I scrapped most of my earlier ideas as the 8" screen just wasn't going to work without some custom fabrication which I just wasn't comfortable with yet.

    Cleared all my old pictures out as they weren't going to have much to do with the new install, but I'm gonna post more stuff here later

    PC Stuff:
    Coming Soon

    Audio Stuff:
    So I'm going to be getting a 4ch amp sometime, gotta find a decently priced one that still puts out good power. I'm following in the footsteps of fusion fanatic a little by mounting two 6x9's in the rear deck of the fusion. There are spots for them to go, just nothing there. So I'll wire the rest of the factory speakers in series, and the 6x9's in parallel, should give me plenty of sound and I may not even need to install a sub in my trunk.

    Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Green
    Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White
    Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): White/Brown
    Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Purple
    Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): White/Orange
    Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/Green
    Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Yellow
    Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/White
    Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Blue

    Wiring from Amp -

    + of Amp -> White (Left Front +)
    White/Brown (Left Front -) -> White/Purple (Right Front +)
    White/Orange (Right Front -) -> Brown/Green (Left Rear +)
    Brown/Yellow (Left Rear -) -> Brown/White (Right Rear +)
    Brown/Blue (Right Rear -) -> - of Amp

    Wow, those new fusions are nice looking cars.

    So, how were you going to mount everything in your trunk? Were you going to put the shuttle right next to your sub box?

    Nice project so far.

    just a thought- cut a block of your favorite foam to fill the factory opening there, and use your favorite tool to sand/cut/shape it perfectly flush to the factory bezel face, then laminate a sheet or two of real carbon fiber over the whole thing, covering foam, opening, and all. Then just be accurate and careful and retrim all the openings, particularly the one small enough to match your lilliput...

    In fact, if you are paying close attention to the cure of the resin, you can actually cut the opening with a template and a very very sharp x-acto knife when the resin has kicked enough to hold the fibers solid, but not cured so hard it can't be sliced easily. You might experiment with some test pieces (fiberglass, not carbon for economy's sake) before you commit to the pretty one.

    Then you don't have cheesy sticker carbon, and solved your screen issue. It should look OEM+. If you want the high gloss then probably the easiest thing for a beginner to do would be to go find a couple cans of Deft clear lacquer (easily had from Lowes/Home Depot) and just go in light layers until you start to build up a gloss. It can be polished out with light sanding (600-2000) and rubbing compounds.

    Thoughts?

    *edit* actually, if you don't want to do it yourself but like the idea, i'll do it for cost of materials and shipping. Looks like a fun project.

    if i may make a suggestion:

    why not tie in your pc into the AUX of the factory radio? You'll get perfect quality sound....

    because then he still has to have the headunit in his car. That was my plan originally, because I have an extra JVC KDG-230 which has an aux in. Then I got to thinking and thought that I'd rather not have a head unit and just let the computer equalize and power my amps. Also a nice amplifier sounds much better than the factory headunit, as well as being able to have more power.

    Another question would be where to put the factory headunit? He put a monitor in the dash.

    hmm. if the factory system sucks, i agree. but if you're out to save money and extra work:

    - place the unit in aux
    - connect pc
    - enjoy
    assuming of course the speaker and such will work without the head unit. i'm thinking the answer is "NO".....
