Any chance I could get you to give me precise measurements of your 889GL (both outer dimensions of the face and dimensions of just the visible screen edges)?

I'm trying to find the best fit for my Fusion, and almost all of the Lilliput displays seem to be just a bit too wide, so looking at using an 8" and hiding the buttons + bezel behind the dash bezel.

    Sure, I can do that:

Overall width of case: 8-1/8 in.
Overall height of case: 5-11/16 in.
    Depth of case: 1-1/4 in.
    Visible screen width: 7 in.
    Visible screen height: 3-15/16 in.
    Top bezel width: 1/2 in.
    Bottom bezel width: 1-1/4 in.
Side bezel width: 9/16 in. each side

The tops of the buttons are 9/16 in. below the bottom of the screen, and the buttons are 7/16 in. high.

If there are other dimensions you need, I'll get them for you (as long as I can get them without uncasing it).

If this Lilliput fits your car, I'd bet you'll like it.

Awesome, thanks for the detailed measurements!

Looks like the 8" is just slightly too big though, the only way I could make it fit would be to put it in upside down, and even then I don't think there's enough of a gap at the bottom to put it behind the panel.

I went ahead and ordered the 7" EBY701 instead, as I know it will fit (with some minor filing on one side), I was just curious if the 8" may have been an easier install.

I'm glad I could help with the information. The 889GL is sitting on the desk next to me, patiently waiting for me to get into the garage and start building its new home. That should begin this weekend. We have some sorting to do in the garage, and I'm putting up a 12-foot x 16-inch wire shelf to store things on. Then it's off to the bandsaw we go.

Good luck on your build with the EBY701. Put lots of pictures in your worklog, please . . .

    Another Delay of Game

I had the best of intentions yesterday: start cutting and forming metal for the chassis. Before doing that, I needed to clear some stuff from the garage and get it into storage in the attic. I decided to assemble a plastic shelf I'd moved up here, and, when reaching for the last shelf, slipped off the floor panel in the attic and stuck my leg clear through the kitchen ceiling.

My granddaughter was in the kitchen sitting at the island, so it all took place right above her, and Josh was just off to the left. They heard a thud, saw the ceiling pieces and insulation come crunching into the sink, and looked up to see my leg sticking through the ceiling. I never said a word. Josh said there was this eerie silence, and then my leg went back up out of the hole.

All told, I feel pretty lucky; I only went through with one leg, instead of straddling a beam and getting crushed equipment, and I hardly gave any significant amount of blood -- it's mostly stripey redness. I scraped up the skin on the outer part of my leg, skinned up my wrist, and am otherwise none the worse for wear.

My granddaughter brought me a washcloth and sprayed the scrapes with Bactine right away. She was a real trouper.

So, Instead of cleaning out more of the garage and stashing stuff in the attic, I spent a while patching up the ceiling. We had all the things we needed -- tools, drywall, drywall screws, drywall tape, and drywall compound. Never even had to go to the hardware store.

I cut the hole to a nice, clean rectangle running between the joists, screwed in a replacement panel, put drywall mesh over the joints, and got the first layer of mud on it.

The ceiling looks a little rough this morning, but it'll look better after some wet sanding and another coat of drywall mud. It should be ready for paint by Wednesday. We were going to paint the whole ceiling, anyway; this just moved that job up on the schedule.

Now, this afternoon, I can get back working on the chassis.

Sorry about the mishap, but you gotta kind of look at it and laugh. Maybe your grandchildren were raised different but if I would have seen a leg dangling over the kitchen sink, I would have been on the floor laughing, I would have then of course helped you as your grand daughter did. Remember though, I'm kind of twisted in the head (don't woory i'm the only one in my family like that). I don't know anything about construction, but I have always wondered why they don't lay the insulation then put ply wood over it so you can actually walk on it?

Anyways hope you get alot done today. Im waiting on my hinges so I can start my dash top screens. To bad I may have to rip all the wiring out for the dual pc per person idea

    1) Cost - a lot of people don't plan on using their attics for storage
    2) Heat - the contractor in my house said something about moisture being locked in? I guess that's not a huge issue because lots of people put flooring in their attics!
    3) Trusses - they're designed to hold the roof and not too much more. Adding a few sheets of plywood will actually cause the roof to start sagging in a few cases. Most people just put the plywood along the edges so that the corners can take some of the weight load off of the main beams.

    Sorry, I had to

Anyway, just started following this thread and wow it's informative! Hoping for an update this afternoon when all is said and done!

Sorry, couldn't help but LOL then wince at the thought of "crushed equipment"... OUCH!
My install has slowed to a crawl. I'll jump back on it in a few weeks. Have fun with the chassis!

First Part Cut for the Chassis

It was a big day here. After a full day of working and playing around the house -- including two sessions of ceiling patch touch-ups -- I finally got things rolling on the chassis. This evening I cut the first part out -- one of the sides -- and finished all the filing to get it smooth and ouch-free.

I took it out to the car right away for a fit check, and that little pup works just fine.

As Tidder says, "Pics?" Well, right now, there's not much to see -- one blank, with no holes. I'll get pictures when I have a few more parts and get some holes punched in them.
