2007 Ford F150 Truckputer

Ok, so I started with a 2004 Mustang and I was really cramped for extra space. I live in Wv so between the snowy winters and mountainous area, I thought I should probably get a truck... hence my new install in a 2007 F150 Supercab.

After banging my head against the mustang interior - cutting dash pieces, etc... I decided to make this installation totally "undoable" in case I need to revert back to stock.

Luckily there is plenty of room in the truck to do so. Instead of cutting into the dash, I built a center console piece to go between the seat and the dash.

On to the pictures:

As you can see, there is plenty of room between the seat and the dash. This truck does not have a bench seat. It is a driver and passenger side bucket seats with a center "jump" seat which doesnt move back or forward. It folds down into a center armrest / console.

Since the middle seat area doesn't move, I can make this console very secure and immobile. I will be losing one seat, but I have a supercab so I can seat six already (five after the console is in).

So that the console matches the interior, I have padded the sides and wrapped them in light gray vinyl with a leather texture. The top part (surrounding the screen and dvd drive) is wrapped in black leather looking vinyl.

Here is a side view of the console showing the gray / black color scheme. That is an 8" touchscreen with a slot load DVD RW underneath it. The slot load cd/dvd drive is out of one of my laptops and I just used an external usb case as the housing. Both the screen and the drive are braced pretty well inside the console.

This is the back of the console. I've cut the inside of a desktop computer to fit in the console and mounted my motherboard and the drive tray. The drive tray is out of a laptop so a 2.5" laptop drives slides in and out of it easily.

Here is the same shot with the drive inserted into the tray and the bus cable connected. I don't know if it is visible, but there is a small screw on the bottom right of the drive tray that secures the drive so it doesn't slide out. The drive tray is also mounted on a very very pliable rubber (not visible in the picture) to dampen any shock. I got the rubber from an internal "slide out" style drive enclosure.

Here is a shot of everything up and running. This is pretty much what it will look like after it is installed. I turned the flash off on the camera to keep from causing a glare - but this picture really does the screen no justice. It is brighter and crisper than my desktop monitor.

The front end is RoadRunner and that skin is lsvoid 3.2 I believe.

Power as of now will be provided by a Pyle PINV3 400w power inverter. I'm not very thrilled about using that, but I need something I could rig up quick and something that was cheap so I could get this thing hooked up and tested. That being said, I fully expect the inverter to introduce line noise once everything is hooked up. However, I do plan to switch over to a DSATX or M2-ATX power supply eventually.
