and I like calling it a problem, because.. . Problems can always be FiXeD.. !!!

I removed my dash with the idea of going with my first Option of placing the 8'' monitor where the radio is and relocating the buttons. buzzzz aaaaa WRONG !! The OEM radio is a BOSE that is completely integrated as one circuitboard. You cannot separate the radio from any buttons for heating/ac .. etc. I can redesign the circuitboard and cut it to shreds, (I have the schooling to do this). It will cost way too much !!!...I checked everywhere online, there are plenty of custom Nissan Muranos out there..NOT A ONE HAS THE FACTORY STEREO REMOVED.... IT IS SAID TO BE IMPOSSIBLE AND NO ONE HAS DONE IT !!.. Oh and like I said I checked into everything .. I agree it has to stay. Whaaaa whaaaa whaaaa !! Am I crying because I cannot place a Carputer into my vehicle??? HECK NO !! I didn't say i was going to leave the factory radio in and and USE it. I have sat down for days, with a professor (handy idea man that is my neighbor) <---Very nice Guy, th local car audio store (Audio+) and with several other genuiouses.. lol WHALA we cameup with the perfect fix !!!! Relocate the top ac/heater MONITOR to below the whole dash, place the 8" monitor in its place and leave the rest stock !! Now you are asking yourself.... HOW IS THIS GOING TOLOOK OEM WITH A DEAD RADIO SITTING IN THE DASH... Well I've decided to place a black or silver.. plate over the radio controls so that it looks as if it weren't there.I will then place an illuminated factory emblem there to look pretty cool.

Next Step ::::::: Make A Fiber Glass Housing/Dash/ Bezel/Mount/Shroud.. whatever you like to call it...

I will either be doing this myself (For the First time) or I will be Having my local Audio store Fabricator do this (Audio+). I was given an estimate for the fiberglass work, it is a pretty penny to have someone do this. I may look into doing this myself. I will be purchasing most of my monitors/amplifiers/speaker through them unless otherwise stated. But for now I believe I will do some research.

You might wanna remove that picture that shows what you ordered.... Your XP serial number might not work once you get it installed. ;-)

Well I have been away contemplating what to do about my previous situation. (Radio being all-in-one with the ac/heater/every freaking thing else) Well I'm going to relocate the monitor as shown in my last post. I've started cutting the dash up, and I have also built a few patterns/test molds for my housing design.

We started out building a pattern out of green strofoam.... once we had the basic needs, we began cutting. and cutting... and cutting... now we have the Monitor in place.. but do not have a full mold to fiberglass. We have a great pattern, but it still has minor tweaks still to be made. Once these are finished we will then begin to fiberglass.
(p.s. It started to rain so we stopped earlier than scheduled, but will continue tomorrow!)


Here are pics of the work so far.... (We are currently working on a top to fiberglass this altogether to look OEM)

We kept on making a mold and then started to fiberglass... this stuff wasn't as bad to work with as I thought it would be. Although it isn't easy to get what you want out of it. We started out by making a resin/fiberglass mold of the inside of the styrofoam mold. It worked as planned .. but did need a few minor touchups (mostly done with bondo). Next we made a mold of the outer styrofoam mold. This worked as planned too.. ! The only issues were fitment.. we just had to sand .. and grind.. sand and grind.. and then sand some more. After that we attached the two pieces using bondo to make them one. It all came together pretty well. We then primer and painted.. a bit early because we ran out of weekend free time. My master fabricator (Step-Dad) and I both had to work the next day so we decided that the rough job would do so that i could continue on with the Carputer and then come back to finish the final cosmetics at the end. All in all the peice looks 75-80% done. I am ok with this for the fact that i now know exactly where the screen is and I can go on with the project until i can reschedule to finish the peice. Also i still have to do the bottom OEM/Nav screen fiberglass housing later too! The pics for the work are added below... I will update the next steps to the process on the next post.... The last two pics are of our shop.. small with every tool imaginable.. oh and a beer fridge !!

Next Step ------> I am going to power up the Carputer in the house (it comes with an adapter to do so<--- very nice of em). I will try and get it configured and ready to work.. pics wil lbe avail once i start. Also i will be getting the measurements ready for the bottom Fiberglass/mold for my OEM nav monitor to go along with the slot loading dic drive and USB slots. Once thse are all figured out, i will probably be heading back to my Master Fabricator to finish the top Fiberglass peice and to do the bottom peice. If all of this goes smoothly, I will most likely be installing the rest of the Carputer within 2 weeks or so. Then I will be adding the 5.1 surround sound .. Subs.. AMp... More tv's and more tvs' more touchscreens and oh ya more tvs!!

With these monitors and my 8'' lilliput, I have THREE monitors.. so only 4 to go.. or more...bwwhaa haaa haa

I am hoping to be able to incorporate these estimated $400-600 dollar screens into my car as a touch monitor in the back floor (above the spare) flush so that not only do I have a cool monitor there, I can also control the system from the back.. and I will be using the other for the screen (without the touch option) as a monitor in the back window glass so that people behind me can enjoy my entertainment too !! (or enjoy being on tv when I turn my rear cam on and they are staring at themselves !!)

I guess i will post here to let you know if this screen is worth the price !!

Does anyone know anything about these screens? they are usually used at photo kiosks and the like...

Also does anyone know If I can have two touchscreens and the rest just monitors, that could possibly end up being a few different brands with diff resolutions.. does this cause problems?
