Today I took apart my rear passenger door and realized that not many controls will fit into it. That means no toggle switch for audio and barely room for PC selection. I have decided to go with a D-Link KVM-221, which uses a small button to select the PC, but also has hotkeys via keyboard. So to choose PC, you will hit the button. The cool thing is that it has audio switching too, but you can use hot key to choose which audio you want to hear. So say your listening to music on PC 1, you can hit a hot key to go to PC 2, but still listen to PC1. This will make everything clutter free and not give me limits. Now all I need to do is add one button and one audio jack for each door. Only door that will get heavy mods is the driver door since I want to add those hot key controls to control the main PC.

Big gaint blow to my install. Turns out some thin clients have the ability to update, while others dont. The first one I recieved was not upgradable so now its a big paper weight. I mean it works, but there isnt much it can do. The software to use it server side can only be run on a server!!!!!!!!!!! This really blows. I did find out though that the case, which fits in my car perfectly, is actually made for a mini-itx board, so swapping it out with a board that is upgradable is no problem. I want to try to get my hands on some old via boards since the door units dont have to be powerful. In the end I may go with Intel Atom boards (cringes at using INTEL). I want to try to use the smallest PSU possible for them also. It has now turned more expensive, but oh well.

I have taken out the guts of the thin client. Pix below.

Ive decided to go with this Mobo, because it will fit with no height issues.

In a month or so, we'll see the first of the Nvidia Ion boards that mate the dual-core Intel Atom with an Nvidia graphics system; they'll be much smaller than the Intel Atom boards and much faster. The size might appeal to you. If not, wait a month or so, and maybe the Atom boards will come down in price from about $80 to something less.

If just enough is really good, then too much ought to be perfect.

I was wondering about the ION, but I read alot of companies may not use it because Intel will frown upon it for not using their graphics chip set. I dont know.... $119.00 is a ok price. I need the thinness of this mobo.

OH wow, those are all nice, but none are the colors I like..... Do they have a black and silver one? I hear you..... This install has gotten so out of hand that I am constantly doubting myself now. I have added so many things and ideas and they are all jumbled together in my head. I am not adding anything else, and this time I mean it. I don't think there is much I can do anyways... I have no more space!!!!!!!

    Final System Plan:

1 AMD Turion x2 dual core 64bit 1.9 ghz based system, with 4GB of Ram
6 Intel ATOM D945GSEJT Johnstown Mainboard 1.6 ghz single core, with 1GB Ram

Have alot of other stuff, but the main thing I am really happy about is turning the car into a rolling hot spot. Most people buy the router that plugs a air card direct into it, but I needed to wire 6 computer into it. So I decided to use a 8 port switch from the dual core system and have run the Ethernet for the future systems. I used the last port for a access point. I have a choice between a 11mbps unit or a 54mbps unit. The B unit is so small, but the g unit is very big. I do have a new one in my house that is small maybe I will switch them. I ordered a new Lilliput screen control board, the last one got blown out and could no longer support 800x600. It isn't a big deal to most, but for me it was. This morning I had doubts about screen placement for all 6 screens. I don't know why but I did. I went to try new screen placements and realized that my first thoughts were right on. Still have to wait for the thin clients so I can strip them and start test fitting into the doors. I don't know if I should build the controls into the PC cases, which are in the door, or add the controls to the arm rests. I want to put a KVM toggle switch, headphone jack, power switch and now a USB port. Still trying to figure out how to power the MoBos, they use a 12V brick. I cant seem to find the amperage and whether or not the mobo has its own 12v power regulation. Have so much rewiring to do. In the mean time I am trying to pick up a second job to pay for my hobby and get some bills out the way. The rest of this build is going to be alot.

It will be about $880.00 for the Atoms with 1 gb of ram. $240.00 for the KVMs. $700.00 for the 7 inch screens. $348.00 for the 19 inch. $100.00 for six 30gb HDD. Two Alpine PDX amps at $1100.00 for both. $550 for a monoblock amp (PDX). $840 for door speakers. $180 for to 5x9 speakers. Still dont know what I need to power the Atoms. Also have to pay for all the fabrication.... I estimate that at about $1100.00 for all of that. Its so depressing, but i hope its worth it.

Did some browsing today and it turns out that the mobo I want is not good for car applications. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...d945gsejt.html That sucks big time because all other boards wont fit in the case. I could just leave the metal lid off and keep the plastic one on and that will give me clearance.

I saw your post, and I just want to point this out:

If you use 12v REGULATED, there wont be a problem. It's sort of silly to think otherwise. That post was basically saying that the onboard regulator is stupid. If you supply it with regulated 14v then its fine.
