Now thats what I am scared of. I have so much equipment in my truck, I wonder if I can even reach 14V even with a highout put alternator. The post said that you will damage the board. It didnt elberate but enough to scare me off. Im looking at the Intel D945GCLF board. Its small, it does break my height requirements but I can always mod the cases and stop being lazy. That way I can use a normal PSU, Im just not sure what the lowest PSU I can go. Basically only one USB port will be in use (for keyboard and touchscreen) and one USB port for thumbdrives and what not, the onboard sound and that it, nothing else. Another thing is heat.... That heat sink is fairly large, does that mean it heats up alot? Also most PSUs come with the P4 connector right?

i did a small look at the d945Gsejt manual
i found that it can be powered via p4-socket built on board
    & it must be regulated 12 v
so as i think you can use the m2-atx to power it as it provides regulated 12 v output
i emailed mini-box the manufaturer of the m2-atx and asked tehm about this possibiliy, but still theey didnt answer
i have the same situation here i want to use this board "size wise"
    but afraid of it's power
so if anyone can advise us please say

here are the mini-box answer about powring the d945gsejt

here are the mini-box answer about powring the d945gsejt:
You can use a 12V rail from the M2-ATX as a power supply for the Intel board without any problems. Should you need other details, please contact us!

HiJack is use that board in my setup. I have not had any heat issues but it is also fairly wide open in my trunk with decent air. It did not come with the P4 connector. I had to make my own (I was too cheap to buy one for $5).

Which board? The d945gsejt (thin one) or the D945GCLF? If its the later, yea I know, why did they make it that way, lol? I am going with the board I know works. I am so scared to experiment on that thin board. I dont want to waste money trying to get it to work.

. If you want I can measure it for you or it may have the dimensions in the manual.

I know it will fit in the case, but I also know that its too tall. I will have to mod the metal lid and the plastic lid to allow air flow and height clearance for the heat sink.

PS: thanx for the link, I read the reviews and people use 90W PSU to power this thing....

I got the rest of the thin clients in and realize that the D945GCLF is going to be really hard to fit. i have contacted Mini-Box, which sells the thin board and asked them what is up with that board and what cautions are there. Lets see what they say.
