So I lost my Lexus SC300 in a car accident...and my carputer that I worked so hard to build and setup.
Its been one year since that day and I have finally got a new vehicle that is ready for a CarPC. This time I have to make it even better than the last.
The car is a Mercedes Benz CLK 430 (W208) 2 door sports coupe.
Today I started the install.
Specifications will include: Intel Core CPU, Windows XP, GPS, Front night-vision camera, 7' VGA Screen EBY-701, XM via XM direct, Auto-on module, Powermate, Bluetooth w/ control via PPC phone, Escort 9500i, ZR4 Laser Jammer, and more.
I start my 2nd year of med school in less than a month so everything must be finished now.

Going well, good pics!freakin awesome car, don't mess it up ha!
Just wondering - front night vision camera? You mean a camera with Infrared LED's pointing forwards on your car? Why? Headlights should be enough. Unless you have a few thousand hardcore IR led's, I'm not sure what the benefit would be?
I have a feeling you have some creative reason for this though and my brain just ain't cluing into it! Let us know!![]()

haha, yeah I know it seems funny.
They're supposed to be used when the lights are off.
I thought it would be a cool add on to see in front even if there was complete darkness.
I can think of very few times when I'd need it... but it would allow me to see things in the dark without them seeing me (since headlights can stay off)

In the old days, especially Prohibition days, that night-vision camera would have been a neat flee-in-the-dark-of-night tool, assuming you'd disconnected your brake lights, too. But nowadays the police have FLIR (Forward-Looking Infrared Radar) on their helichoppers, and they can see heat signatures, so those flee-in-the-dark-of-night scenarios are best left to movies.
Good tool for spies and stalkers, though, if you need to do any of that in med school. Still, spies seem to prefer inconspicuous cars, and I'd think there are less-conspicuous cars than a Merc sports coupe. I'm not sure what stalkers prefer; I've never met one.
Maybe you could aim it back from the rear so you could see what's sneaking up on you.![]()

so what you're trying to say is I need to figure out how thwart FLIR... I'll see what I can do, haha
I was originally going to put it in the back but couldn't find a good place... guess I'll have to stick to stalking
Not my car but here's a pic of what the back looks like:
Since you probably have electronic release of the trunk, it might be interesting to replace the trunk key mechanism with the camera eye. We've done it, and it's functional, waterproof, and about as unobtrusive as it gets. Plus, it's completely reversible if you decide to uninstall it.

Good luck. I've done a little bit of research into installing FLIR into my car as well, but I'm going to let the shop install that for me when I do get it.
Where do you plan to place the LCD?
I`m asking because I have the same W208 but dark blue color outside and white inside with 200K engine.
Also I have some problems when trying to detach the climate control unit. I have the removal keys but the unit gets out for half an inch and stuck. I`m afraid to broke the dashboard.
