okay, well after a weekend of playing around with the tablet, decided that I'm going to be using the 12.1" screen that came with it to be mounted vertically... also due to not wanting to spend much money
using RoadRunner with the only vertical skin I could find
I'll have to relocate the hvac somewhere, but I think that'll get figured out once I test fit the screen tonight.
There'll be some plastic molding to be done, and lots of prep work I'm sure... but I've got some time
... just a little bump is all
okay... well it's been a little while - actually too long, but I've been slowly poking at this from time to time.
Both making the laptop work properly, and making a new skin...
Though today I did just receive some nice toys to add to the collection and make the install near it's day...first post updated too
I've got the dash bezel out and the glovebox removed, just working on the glovebox fab-work right now, and will be doing the dash bezel possibly tomorrow - at least the initial stages of it... I'm going for function right now.

so in terms of function - the screen is in, and can be hooked up to the base of the laptop (which doesn't have a home yet)
Here's some pics of what I've got so far.
I've got some more tweaking to do with the skin and figure out what setting I changed with RR to stop iguidance from working - though it works as a standalone program.

well a little update in my "progress"
- scrapping the TC4400 idea, as the power was turning into a nightmare.... stupid HP 'smart' pin.
- - I didn't feel like getting an auto adapter and hooking that up to the CNX1900 to then still not have it fully touch screen.
I'm on the look out and have my eye on a Fujitsu B2566 notebook, which has a true touch screen and anti-glare screen for outdoor use.... though it is only a P3-700... but should do what I'm wanting just fine.... though I'd still have to get an auto adapter for it since the 1900 doesn't do 16v as an output.
This would be bumping down to a 10.4" screen, which would actually be a little easier to install.
So the 250GB SATA drive will be going USB external and then the rest of things should just hook up nicely.

okay, well another update.
with that little side step idea with the Fujitsu - waste of time.
I picked up a air/auto adapter and right now it's hooked to the cig lighter, will get hooked up to the carnetix so that it's all auto on. I've started to redo the molding for the screen, the 'bumper repair kit' is crap, so I've got some fiberglassing done, and topping it off with bondo/fiberglass and then going to do some regular bondo to top things off. Then some paint. Here's what I've got so far, lots more to do though.
I've got a touch panel on the way, so that will eliminate the active digitizer and allow for easier use. Looking forward to it.
I've also been working on the skin a bunch more, should update that as well, not that there's a huge demand for tall screen RR skins.

picture update
GPS working, OBDMPG stopped working, and winamp visualizations kill the processor for some reason, have to look into why.
Touchpanel will be installed this week along with integrating the auto adapter to the CNX-1900, hopefully when I install the touch panel i'll hook up the hvac controls properly

Amazing project! Wouldnt have though to put something as big as 12 inch for the display but it looks to work in your car.
Im building a laptop that I eventually want to intigrate to my car but im having a few problems. How can I get it to turn on with the ignition? Wake up on LAN needs a special packet, not just a voltage. No serial connection for Wake on Serial. I was hoping to find a bit of software that would see that a voltage is over the power adaptor and make it boot but no joy.
I like the skin youv got in your last post! Dont suppose youd be up for distrabuting that or would you want some payment for your effort?
I definitely can't take much credit for the skin. Without the fantastic skins already out there I'd be lost for how to do things.... not to mention the flash gauges.
Once I do get this into a comfortable/operating state I'll publish it for others to tear apart and make work and find all the spots that I programmed it poorly
Though alot of the program layout will be made for my install... there may be better ways to do it, I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out.
depending on your laptop you may want to just wire up the switch to either a power supply or relay system. That's the easiest I think.
