Well, my Dad had an aortic valve replaced many years ago. He also had mild mitral valve prolapse at the time. Back then, they couldn't fix both, so they fixed the worst of the two. Later on, as the mitral valve prolapse got worse, he started running out of steam, because unoxygenated blood would mix with oxygenated blood, and he wouldn't get enough oxygen into his system. He got gradually weaker, and they finally said he was too weak to survive mitral valve surgery, or any major surgery.
Dad was on blood thinners for almost 20 years, and -- while he didn't like it -- it was worth it. He said open heart surgery really kicked his butt for six months, but after that, it was worth it.
I respect your decision to accept what you're dealt, but I wonder if another cardiac specialist might give a different answer, perhaps even one that would make it worthwhile to consider the surgery.
