Back on topic:
I have put the CarPC part of Turtle on hold until I can save up to get a real SSD. I may go to a flash drive if I get the time to do it, but a real SSD is definitely in the works.
OTOH: Modding the Turtle itself isn't on hold. Upgrading all of the electrical systems is next on my list(No alternator upgrade for now, just Big 3), followed by sound system upgrade(I'm tired of distorted bass... :@ ) Now, if only some jobs would actually come through for me so I'd have the money to do all of this...

Well if you do not mind tweaking your PC, I have a SSD (MLC). I could never get it to work the way I wanted to, so I really do not need it. You are welcome to it.

I do need information from you in return. Basically my install is bleeding money and I am trying to cut down on my cost. One way I see to cutting some cost is to buy CF drives instead of HDD. All systems will use EWF, so I do not care about write speed. Did you have a good read speed on the setup? As long as the read speed is better then a HDD, im all good. I also want to go this route so I do not have to worry about mounting things, the CF card/reader would all sit flat with the MoBo. I see the adapters are only like 3 dollars, it says bootable and IDE so I guess that is what I going for. Its the CF card I want to be sure on. I want something cheap, but not something $h!++y. Also is a CF style setup easy to work with?

Also how big of a card will I need. I am going to be running Windows XP / Centrafuse / Drivers and thats it.

HiJack, I had around 30MB/s read speed, but about 10MB/s write speed. I went from hibernate with HORM to CentraFuse in 45 seconds, shut downs were near immediate(unless it was applying updates). I had a 16GB card for CentraFuse, iG4 with all Continental US maps, and necessary drivers. EWF and HORM require some tweaking, but they do help boot times. The initial hibernate takes forever, but afterward, as before, 30-45 seconds. I will upload the files you'll need if you want them, and I will include the guide to setting up Windows XP on a CF card.

Ordered the $4.99 heat shrink tubing kit from the link rdholtz posted. Everything should be in by the end of the week. YAY!

Yea I did research and I found someone that sells 40GB HDD for about 19.99. i am worried about issues, so I will go with the standard solution. I will still use the HORM and EWF though.

OK, HiJack(and whoever else may need these files).

HORM Manager Lite-Will automatically (un)mount drives for HORM and enable/disable HORM and EWF

EWF Tool-Will install EWF and the registry files needed to use it. (First two buttons in the application; the third never worked for me.)

EWF Files-extract these into the same directory as the EWF Tool or you will get errors. Also includes the guide to doing all of this(eXPinstall.htm) which I will mirror here.

Wow, MP3Car.com got a facelift... I like it!

Well, I'm starting on the CarPC again. Hopefully I won't have the previous issues since I'll be using an SSD this time around. Working on slip-streaming my XP install to SP3 with all of my stuff preloaded. Gotta find all of my product keys and finish wiring up my USB hub in-car. Hopefully I'll have my alarm installed in the next few weeks. Updated pix soon.
