The headunit in the Turtle just crapped out on me... I'm in chat with a Sony representative to try to fix it. The CD options quit, and I have a CD stuck in the drive, but the CD2 option patches the CarPC audio through, so I kinda need that...

I got the HU working again. The adapter that tricks it into thinking there is a CD changer attached so I can use the RCA plugs in the back came loose and shorted some of the pins, so the CD function got killed. Everything works fine now, so I'm still thinking about what might have cause the plug to come loose...

I'm also still kinda brainstorming about getting a Fusion Brain to monitor voltages and have for my tachometer. I'm still trying to figure out how I could use the Fusion Brain to maybe make a lone of the MPGuino that is so popular with pre-OBDII cars on EcoModder. I would be kinda cool to have all of that on my CarPC... I just downloaded the manual to the FB, so maybe I can figure some of this out in the next few days before school starts back up and kicking my butt again.

WOW, you have no luck with electricity items. You seem to be burning out alot of stuff.

As far as the FB is concerned, I am thinking of getting one too. I want to put LEDs in areas of my car and have them move in patterns and stuff.

I've been looking at both the Fusion Brain and the Arduino. They appear pretty similar in design philosophy.

We have an Arduino MEGA now, but it's going to be a research unit for playing with ideas. I'd still have to decide which way to go for the car.

Dont want to clog up his thread, but have you guys ever watched the Cash Cab on Discovery Channel? That is what I want to do with the roof of my car.

I havent figured out how they make it light up yet, but the fusion brain could be good for making it work in a pattern.

Nothing burned up. The plug headunit has a CD changer plug that I have an adapter plugged into so it tricks the HU into thinking there is a CD changer attached so I can use the RCA in plugs in the back for the CarPC.

Do you think the functions of the MPGuino can be done with the Fusion Brain?

So far, I haven't found a reason to go from Arduino to Fusion Brain, but I haven't researched Fusion Brain enough to discover why that would be a good idea. I have to look around to see what advantages it may have. I know the Arduino has very broad support and a very active development community, and that it's open source, so it isn't limited to a single supplier. Those are some heavy advantages.

Meh, I don't really need the MPGuino, just thought it would be cool addition to the Turtle. I'll figure something out to keep track of my gas mileage inside CF3. I downloaded and installed the Fusion Brain software just to toy around with it, and the setup seems pretty simple. Now I just need the $100 to get the Brain and the parts I'll need... Where's my next paycheck?

The upgraded wiring for the new amp and subwoofers is probably on hold for a while. Saul has some jobs he needs to get done, and he is the one building the boxes for my subwoofers and installing my alarm.

Fusion Brain is basically a PC controlled microcontroller. So yes, possible. Just a different method of approach.

There are advantages and disadvantages. They are built for very different purposes. A full Arduino and the Fusion Brain are marketed towards different people. Arduino requires low level programming and more of a hobbiest approach all around. Fusion Brain basically provides a PC level programming platform with a higher level approach. If you wanted to program firmware, you can actually use the Fusion Brain and its ICSP or the USB bootloader and put whatever you want on there. We dont support that, but we have helped people do it before.

Also FYI, everything we have is open source except for our firmware. Our drivers and pc software are completely open source and have been downloaded by people all over the world hundreds of times.

The software is supposed to be simple to use. But be forewarned that a standalone system made to do one thing and one thing well (aka MPGuino) will always be easier to setup than one that can do anything implementing one use. So the choice is yours, but it will take longer to setup with the FB. Good side is you can also do pretty much everythng else aswell.

The only things I plan to implement into a FB, (if I get one) at this point, are the tachometer, battery voltages (MAIN and AUX), (maybe) speedometer, and (maybe) temperature. Later I want to try to do something like this as far as lights and things go. It seems like it should be a pretty easy job. I'll actually have a dash to work with where ACCLR8N doesn't. Should make things a little easier on my part...
