It's dual soundcards. It's also a well-known CF problem, sadly... Myself and a few others have filed a bug report on the forums. Maybe someone will pull through...

    A sad day, indeed...

Today marks an all too important day in the life of Project Turtle: it's end.

I am officially too tall for the Turtle, so I will be removing all of my CarPC and audio equipment from the Turtle over to my new vehicle: a 1994 Chevrolet G20 Custom. A new worklog will be made for it once I actually start on it. I'm looking forward to this new and greater opportunity to further my automotive/computing skills.

Well since your getting rid of it, can I bash the Turtle? I always hated that car big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasnt very Car PC friendly. Now the Chevy G20 (which is a van), I see a big vision for that one. Huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can actually out do me because you have cr@p loads more room and its more comfortable. Also as far as install, you'll have an easier time. Simply make a custom box, and the PC goes in there, in fact you can make a nice big box (but not obvious) that houses every last Car PC component. If you want to get creative, make a table for the second row, but in the base is the Car PC, similar to how my PC is. Although I am not a fan of vans, I do like the possibilities of what can be done with a Car PC with it.

PS: The dash I can see a nice 10 inch going in there. You did good with this one. I will say though, take you time this time. The Turtle you tended to rush things resulting in issues. Just go slow, like ive started to do and install it to perfection from the get go. Also this vehicle has a bit of recalls, so I would check the van carefully unless you have already bought it.

But I don't think I'll even try to out-do you on this one. I'm gonna throw the 7" Lilliput I have in and close off the middle vents so I can have the same setup style as the Turtle had (Screen on top, HU on the bottom). I need to anchor the TV mount in the center console area down, the holes are stripped out. It also needs a new TV. I'm thinking of an LCD in there with the option to have an antenna feed, DVD/VCR, and PC on it. All the recall things are patched up and the only real issue is the sender for the gas gauge. I am also going to take all of my sound stuff out of the Turtle and shoehorn it into the van. Now I just need to name it... My friends have suggested "The Shag Van," "The Tech Van," and " ." <-- I can't say that one here...

But I'm planning on starting the Turtle's teardown tonight. I'll try to get some pix and start my new thread.

Well seeing the dash is so big, you can get your whole setup in there. Unless that area of the dash is also housing parts of the engine. Does your have the bench seating (2 benches) or individual swivel chairs? From the pictures I see online from other Chevys, i would keep the headunit at the top with vents. Put the screen on the lower half. it will be easier for you to reach.

You dont need a new TV..... Simply buy a cheap LCD PC monitor and have the car pc do all the entertainment. Remember you most likely have 2 visual ports, DVI, VGA. If your worried about controlling it, they sell Windows Media Remotes with built in mouse for like $3.95 on ebay. Remember CF3 has front and rear controls, use them!

Dont shoehorn it in..... take your time and carefully put it in.

As far as the name..... I use the first 2 letters of my name (my future name), plus the project number, plus cruizer (which wont be appropriate once I get the engine upgrades done). So I guess yours could be the SM1 "blank", or would it be the SM2 "blank"? Anyways, how tall are you that you have to change cars?

PS: I dont know if its cheaper to buy new, but I have seven 27 inch LCD TVs laying around. They have a transformer issue, which is $95.00 to fix. Your welcome to one if you would like.

PS#2: When you want to say something bad just use characters that look like the letters, lol... please dont tell me they said the pu$$y van. Please dont name it that, it sounds trashy and it gross to me thinking about pu$$y, lol.

Behind parts of the dash are engine parts, but I think I can work around all of that. I ordered a Haynes book for this G20 so I could have the wiring diagrams and teardown instructions to get everything in. I can get the stereo wiring diagram online, but the sender for the gas gauge and the other stuff I'll need eventually, so why not get the book now?

It has the two captain's chairs in the first row and the second row has the 3 person seat that folds down into a bed.

The original HU is gone. They shoehorned a cheap Jensen HU in and it doesn't work anymore... I'll mock something up and post it once I start the thread.

I only have one VGA port on my Atom motherboard. I could get a touchscreen VGA monitor and a USB (or dual-output VGA) video card...

Technically it would be JM, not SM, but I won't go there... I am almost 6 foot and the Tercel was REALLY SMALL. The only way to get more headroom is to lay the seat back, and that isn't very comfortable...

I will take that into consideration once I start on the actual project. Thanks!

IIRC, you got an infraction for "circumventing the language filter" or something like that not too long ago for doing that... And no, they didn't call it that, it was MUCH worse...

If anyone still watches this thread, the clutch went out on me today during lunch. Right as I'm getting ready to sell it... FML I'm gonna take the first payment to fix the clutch. Payment = the girl is going to pay it off, then she gets the car. While she is paying for it, I still have it to drive, but now I get to pull the Van out again and (hopefully) get the word out that it's for sale. I put it on Craigslist and heard from one guy, but after I answered his questions, he never replied back...
